HAMLYN, Elizabeth - Passed peacefully away at Saint Luke`s Home on Monday, May 19, 2003, Elizabeth Hamlyn, aged 88 years. Predeceased by her husband George in 1974. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are sister-in-law Muriel Hamlyn (Ontario), step-sister Daisy Crewe (Shoal Harbour), many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and very special cousins in Newfoundland and U.S.A. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday. HARNUM, David M. May 31, 1930 - July 13, 2003- Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Complex on Sunday, July 13, 2003, David Harnum of Heart`s Delight, aged 73 years. Predeceased by parents Jessie and Kenneth Harnum, daughter-in-law Linda (Hussey). Leaving to mourn; wife Nita, two sons Rick (Cathy) St. John`s, Jeff (Debbie) Heart`s Delight, grandchildren: David and Katie, St. John`s, Teiha, Trista and Taylor, Heart`s Delight. Brother Ken (Joan), sisters: Betty Rogers, Marilyn Green (Ken), St. John`s. Special aunt, Minnie Diamond, Glovertown. Also loved and remembered by a large number of other relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn three sisters-in-law: Florence Appleby, Burin, Mabel Hollet, Nova Scotia, and Geraldine Harnum, Heart`s Delight; and sister Jean (Ron) Kelly of Howley. Also a large number of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Resting at the S.U.F. Lodge, Heart`s Delight. HAYNES, Albert J - of Doylestown, Pa. died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at his home. He was 81. Born May 1, 1922 in Catalina, Newfoundland to Capt. Albert Charles and Elizabeth Baldwin Haynes. Grandson of Capt. William Haynes and great-grandson of Capt. Charles Haynes. He was the youngest of five children: William, Anita "Dikk White", Jesse Pelley, Clara Blackmore and Susan Templeman. He graduated from St. Peter`s High School in 1940. He first cheated death in 1939 at age 17 when his father`s smashed schooner, the "Frank H. Adams" was wrecked in a storm off the Groix Islands.Upon graduation he served six years in his Majesty`s Royal Navy during World War II. He was recruited and played for a British Soccer team in 1951. In 1946 he received his second officers certificate from Memorial College in St. John`s, Newfoundland. In 1949 he received his Chief Officer Certificate from Navigation College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. From 1946 to 1950 he visited world ports as a deck officer in the Canadian Merchant Marines.

He served as 3rd, 2nd and 1st officer on many ships including the "SS Northbrook", "Queen of Bermuda", "Ocean Monarch" and "SS Cornerbrook". In 1950 while serving on the "Fort Townsend" and stopping in Bermuda, he got to know one of his passengers, Isabelle Wacker, a nurse from Philadelphia, Pa. They were married in 1952. In 1953 he received his Masters Certificate in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Albert resigned from his life at sea in 1954 at age 32. He was employed for the next 13 years by Bowaters as Superintendent of Pier 42 on the East River in New York and as a service representative to newspapers across the U.S. and Jamaica.

He then worked for 16 years for the Phila. Inquirer as Superintendent of Paper handling until his retirement in 1985. He attended Jarretown United Methodist Church before moving to Doyles town. He was a member of the Indian Guides with his son Albert. He was known for his ready smile. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002.

He is survived by his sisters: Clara Blackmore of Newfoundland, and Jesse Pelley of Nova Scotia; his four children: Joy Bailey of Downington, Pa., Cheryl Raman of Wilton, CT., Dale Osinski of Phila., and Albert Haynes, Mayor of Trumbauersville, Pa., and nine grandchildren.

A Memorial Service at the Pine Run Community will be announced at a later date. Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, Doylestown, Pa.

HETRICK, Olive B. - Age 80, of 7 Maurice Road, Mt. Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, passed away May 21, 2003 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born January 17, 1923, in Hant`s Harbour, Newfoundland to the late Hiram and Ethel Jane Green Janes. Olive was a member of the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, and the widow of Ronald D. Hetrick, who passed away on October 14, 1974. Olive is survived by two sons: Richard D. Hetrick of La Salle, Illinois and Robert B. Hetrick of Carlisle; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Eric of Clarke`s Beach and two sisters: Isabel Green of Hant`s Harbour and Effie Bridger of St. John`s. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Coolspring. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065.

HIGDON, Ralph - Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear, on Tuesday, October 14, 2003, Ralph Higdon of New Harbour in his 90th year. Beloved and mourned husband of 64 years of Elsie Higdon (nee Brace). A devoted father who will be forever sadly missed by his only daughter Lorna and her husband Ken Norrie of Burlington, Ontario and their children Paul and Erika. Predeceased by brothers Noah and William and sisters Edith and Emma. Survived by one sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Sidney Ford), brother-in-law Walter Rodgers (Paradise) and sister-in-law Emma Higdon (Corner Brook). Lovingly remembered by his sisters- and brothers-in-law Laura Tertel of Levittown, PA; Fred and Jessie Brace of Green`s Harbour, NL; Heartie and Ted Burchess of Levittown, PA; and Majors Sidney and Rachel Brace of Long Pond, NL, as well as by his many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Predeceased by father, Wilfred Hoskins, father-in-law Lewis March. Leaving to mourn loving wife Sheila (March), two loving children: Michael and Terri-Lynn; mother, Marie (Ross); four brothers and two sisters: Larry (Linda), Dianne Smith (Gerald), Doug (Alice), Warrick (Cindy), Keith (Jocelyn), Tammy Ingle (Tony); also lovingly remembered by mother-in-law: Louise March; brothers-in-law: Dudley (Karen), Derrick (Michelle); sister-in-law: Gail (Harry); a large number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. Second World War Veteran, Royal Artillery and member of the Masonic Lodge, Heart`s Content #1275. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife, Emily (nee Jackson); sister, Minnie Ann Critch, Cavendish; brother, Ernest Jerrett (Beth), Ipswick, Mass., USA; brother-in-law, Wallace Jackson (Alberta), Scarborough, ON; sister-in-law, Gladys Jackson, Cavendish; a large number of nephews, nieces, also a large circle of relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn his wife Betty-Ann; daughter Naomi and son Morrissey; first wife Geraldine Johnson and their children: Wayne Johnson and wife Marcella, Gerald Johnson and wife Alva, Zeta Brown and husband Wallace, Kevin and wife Ruby, Keith and wife Debbie, Jennifer, Dwight and wife Karen, Geraldine Russell and husband Fred, Morrissette Denik and husband Nebojsa, Graham and wife Kim; three brothers; three sisters; nineteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. KING, Elizabeth "Betty" Beryl (nee Bragg) - Loving wife, mother and grandmother. Embodied by great strength, kind spirit, and genuine style. Born in Port Union, Newfoundland, 1927, passed away at St. Peter`s Hospital, in Hamilton, Ontario on February 24th, 2003 of complications from pancreatic cancer. Wife and best friend of Reginald for 52 years. Cherished mother of John and Teresa of Michigan; Susan and Lu of Ottawa; and Gary and Laura of Parry Sound. Dear grandmother of Ryan, Matthew, Sean, Vashti, Dylan, Quincy and Jesse. Also survived by special nephew Don, sisters Hazel, Ellen and Hattie, and brother Roy. Predeceased by parents John and Jessie, and brothers Edwin, Donald, Walter and George. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Peter`s and the Henderson Hospital, as well as to Margarita, for their compassionate care. The kindness of many friends has also been of great comfort to the family. Following her wishes, cremation has occurred and a private family service held. If desired, in remembrance contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.

Nita was predeceased by her husband Lester; sisters: Hazel and Lillith and brother Haig. Leaving to mourn her very sad loss are her daughters: Marjorie (Keith Noble), Kathy (Pierce Croucher); sons: Dennis (Susan) and Jim; grandchildren: Emily and Jessica Knight, Jason and Matthew Noble, Keenan and Wyatt Croucher; great-grandchild Chloe Bouchard; brothers: Gordon (Charmion), Harry (Dot) and a large circle of relatives and friends.
