VALLIS, Minnie - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, November 7, 2002, Minnie Vallis of Brownsdale, age 69 years. Leaving to mourn spouse George and children: Jean Gardiner (Paul), Steve (Irene), Wayne (Karen), Peggy Gulliford (Paul), Joe (Esma), Ken (Sharon), Perry (Tracy); thirteen grandchildren; three sisters: Gwen, Bertha and Irene; one brother, Oscar Matthews; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. At Minnie`s request cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving friends at Green`s Funeral Home, Winterton, on Monday, November 11, 2002, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will take place at the United Church, Brownsdale, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Trinity, Conception, Placentia Health Foundation.

VARDY, Wilson Francis (Frank) - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Friday, November 8, 2002, Wilson Francis (Frank) Vardy of Robinsons Bight, aged 74 years. Predeceased by son Jim, 1982. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Olive of 54 years; daughters, Beverly (Navin Lambert), Robinsons Bight, Joann (Calvin Smith), Clarenville; sons, Edgar, Eric (Leona) and Robert, all of Ontario; sister Myrtle Buller, Ontario; brothers, Allan (Ruth), Lady Cove; Stan, Ontario, Don (Vicky), Saskatchewan; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer`s Funeral Home in Clarenville. A memorial service will be on Monday, November 11, 2002 at 2 p.m. from Fewer`s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Cremation to follow. In his memory flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the family.

VATERS, Nellie - Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, June 2, 2002 after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by grandson Brian Pinsent; sisters, Blanche and Stella; and brothers, Bill and Erwin. Leaving to mourn, husband Graham; daughter Jean Pinsent (Morris), grandsons, Matthew and Stephen; sons, Oral (Cindy), grandsons Chad and Christopher; Curtis (Allison), granddaughters, Ashley, Vanessa, Kayla; Derrick (Margaret), granddaughter, Holly; Mark (Lynette); close friend and sister-in-law Annie Smith; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Holloway`s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation, Monday, June 3, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday 10 a.m.-12 noon. Funeral service from Upper Trinity Bay South Salvation Army Corps, 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002. Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Whitbourne. Flowers gratefully declined. Leaving to mourn son Bob (Nicki); two grandchildren: Robert and Joanne of Sydney, N.S.; one brother, Robert, Winterton; two sisters: Rachel Tucker, Harbour Lodge, Carbonear, and Mabel Anderson, Curling; good friend and caregiver Sadie Ryan, Turks Cove. Resting at Green`s Funeral Home, Winterton. Funeral Service to take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from St. Luke`s Anglican Church and Cemetery, Winterton. Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizen`s Home, Carbonear on Wednesday, July 24th, 2002, Olive Welsh of Islington, aged 79 years. Predeceased by husband Seymour, daughter Elizabeth, brother Stan. Leaving to mourn one daughter Molly (Melvin) Jerrett, Calgary, Alberta; five sons: Jim (Bridget), Carbonear; Scott (Charlene), Toronto; Kevin and David, Islington; Graham (Interfaith Home), Carbonear; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Lucy Burrage, New Perlican; Amy Currie, Random Island; brothers: John Pottle (Elsie), Bonavista; Alfred (Miller Centre); also lovingly remembered by a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at St. Matthew`s Parish Hall, Islington. The Funeral service will be held from St. Matthew`s Anglican Church, Heart`s Delight on Saturday, July 27th at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow St. Matthew`s Anglican Cemetery. WHALEN, Harold T. - Gently eased from this life surrounded by his loving family, whom he dearly loved, Harold Thomas Whalen, aged 71. Leaving with a lifetime of cherished, wonderful memories are his wife of 48 years Rosetta (May), sons Harold Jr. (Gertie), Tom (Cathy) and Dennis (Laura); daughter Daphne (Greg Blake) and grandchildren who gave him such joy, Debbie, Deana, Daniel, Cody, Cassidy, Spencer, Casey, Lenore and Emma Rae. Also leaving to mourn brothers Albert (Kathleen) and Fred (Alma); sisters Alice Wade, Beatrice (Otto King) and Gertie (Edgar Smith); brothers-in-law John May (Sylvia) and Philip May (Maxine); sisters-in-law Ellen Snook (Leonard), Lillian Snook (Randell), Linda Marshall, Sophia Spurrell (Lloyd) and Marie Snook (Basil). He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends, neighbours and camping buddies. Resting at Wesley United Church, Caplin Cove. Funeral on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. No flowers by request. Predeceased by her husband Joseph and daughter-in-law Mary; sister, Lucy; brothers: Matthew, Mark, James, John and Arthur. Leaving to mourn two sons: Leslie & Douglas; three daughters: Agnes (Adrian), Mary (Thomas) and Sheila (Danny); also sister, Nellie; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; also a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Holloway`s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation Wednesday 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Thursday, 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 2:00 p.m. from the Roman Catholic Church, Chapel Arm. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Long Harbour Road. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Thursday, August 15, 2002, Florence Wilson, in her 82nd year, of Clarenville, formerly of Harbour Main and Liverpool, England. Predeceased by her husband John Wilson and her parents Joseph and Mary Midgley. Left with fond and loving memories are her son William, grandsons: Stuart, Graham, granddaughter Sara; her son John (Cecilia), grandsons: John, Keith, Peter, granddaughters: Maria, Sandra, great-grandchildren: Bradley and Brittany; her sisters: Emily Upton, Bedlington, Northumberland, England, Winnie Dougan, Speke, Liverpool, England; her special friends: Albert Furey, Gertrude Maloney, Gerry and Buster Furey and family, Luke Dalton and family, all at Harbour Main, Mrs. Edna Lloyd, Reg and Ivey Grey, all at Liverpool, England and a circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Dunphy`s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation on Friday, from 2 p.m.- 9 p.m. Funeral will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2002 following 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial from Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Harbour Main. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Harbour Main.

Wiseman of Shoal Harbour in her 71st year. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband William of 51 years; daughter Brenda (Doug Barnes), Sarnia, Ont.; sons Freeman (Lily), Shoal Harbour, Tony (Anne Marie), Clarenville and Dean (Madonna), Shoal Harbour; sisters Phyllis Philpott, Annie Hancock, Dulcie (Merlin Feltham) and Kathy (Geoff Muggridge); brothers Wayne (Roselyn) Starkes and Sterling (Sharon) Starkes; grandchildren Tonya, Wendy, Dana, Melissa, Christine, Suzanne and Tyler and a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer`s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, from Shoal Harbour United Church with interment at United Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. Leaving to mourn her loving and devoted husband of 51 years Haig; son Douglas (Sharon), Shoal Harbour; daughter Marina Reid (Darrel), Vancouver; grandchildren: Douglas (Hope), Stefan, Kristin, Whitney and Kaitlynn Young, Sara and Stephanie Reid; great-grandchildren: Meagan and Alison Young; also leaving to mourn sister Betty Van Klink; brothers: Jack (Ruth), Ian (Mary), Claude (Loretta) and Don (Isabel); special sister-in-law Marina Osbourne; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. Cremation has taken place.
