ADAMS, Elmer - Passed peacefully away after a long and courageous battle with cancer at Dr. G.B.Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Thursday, November 14, 2002, Elmer Adams of Milton, aged 56 years. Predeceased by his mother Cassandra and his father Emmanuel. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife Shirley of 36 years; daughters: Susan (Allan Vardy), Chaulk River, ON and Jennifer (Bob Currie), Britannia; son Keith (Sylvia), Milton; sisters: Sandra Adams, Milton, Pauline (Fred Barnes), Buchans and Audrey (John Coady), St. John`s; brother Byron (Theresa), Milton; brother-in-law Kevin French (Peggy), Paradise; grandchildren Robin, Jeremy, Andrew, Katie and Mark and a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by wife Ida, daughter Florence, son Melvin, sister Elizabeth and brother James. Leaving to mourn wife Myrtle; daughters: Elizabeth (Willis Reid), St. John`s, Louise (Harris Vaters), Pouch Cove, Nina (Melvin), St. John`s; sons: Aubrey (Hazel), Chance Cove, Cecil (Phyllis), Bishops Falls, John (Olive), Chance Cove; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Special friend Myrtle and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at the Church of the Ascension, Chance Cove from where the funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the Church of the Ascension Cemetery, Chance Cove. ANTLE, Ivor Clarence - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, March 5, 2002. Ivor Clarence Antle, of Hopeall, aged 69 years. Predeceased by parents Adeline and Joshua Antle; sisters: Violet and Eliza; brothers: Hedley and William. He died as he lived, with quiet strength and dignity, and surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. Left with precious memories his loving wife Elizabeth (Mayne); son David (Carrie Cranford); daughters: Valera (Wade Piercey), Holly, Jocelyn (Keith Hoskins); five cherished grandchildren: Brian, Robert, Jennifer, Matthew and Adam; five sisters: Doris Griffin, Julie Vokey, Sarah Tizzard, Valera Heath and Evelyn Bastow; also lovingly remembered by a large circle of other relatives and friends. BALSOM, Donald Montgomery (Monty) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clares Mercy Hospital on Saturday, January 5, age 56 years, of St. John`s, former Associate Director in the School of Continuing Education of Memorial University, and a founding member and Past-President of the Brain Injury Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. Predeceased by his brother and close friend Gerry in 1999. Left to cherish his memories and celebrate his life are his parents, Ralph and Jean Balsom, Clarenville; daughters: Victoria, Toronto and Zoe, St. John`s; wife Sharon Taylor; sister Linda Pelley (Garry); brother David (Irene) and their children; mother-in-law Hannah Taylor; sisters-in-law: Pam Taylor and Joan Leamon; brothers-in-law: Morgan, Christopher, Bruce, Henry and Tim Taylor; and a large number of other relatives and friends, including Harvey and Gail Weir, Jim Roache, Tony Williamson, Bruce and Marie Simms, Keith Pike and Steve O`Brien. BELLOWS, Elsie - 1912 - 2001. Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes at Gander on December 31, 2001 in her 90th year. Elsie was born at Dunfield, Trinity Bay, Nfld. and resided at Grand Falls-Windsor for over 50 years. Predeceased by her husband Alfred (1943) and grandson Brian (1985). Survived by her only child, Raymond and his wife Jean of Oshawa, Ont.; four grandchildren: Bruce, Jeffrey, David and Carol, their spouses and children; many nieces and nephews; special Aunt to Ruby and the late Joseph Hurdle and their children: Sandra, Wayne, Joanne, Cathy, Cindy and Chris. BISHOP, Hazel Winnie - Passed peacefully away June 21, 2002 after a wonderful stay at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, St. John`s, Hazel Winnie (Pinsent) Bishop, aged 81. A native of Grand Falls, Hazel and her late husband Cecil D. Bishop, established their home in Gander in 1946. A member of the Anglican Church Women`s Auxiliary, Hazel took an active role in the affairs of St. Martin`s Pro-Cathedral including the twenty years of Old Fashioned Concerts. She leaves to mourn her brothers: Harry Pinsent (Dorothy), Grand Falls, Gordon Pinsent (Charmion King), Toronto and sister Nita Knight, St. John`s; daughter June (Richard) Ellis, St. John`s; son Neil (Betty) Bishop, Stephenville; son Brian (Frances) Bishop, Wasaga Beach, Ontario; grandchildren Sean and Anneliese Ellis, Brian and Allison Bishop, and Samantha and Jaqueline Bishop. Hazel leaves a large circle of close friends who were touched by her wit, compassion and good humour. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24, 2002 at St. Martin`s Pro-Cathedral, Gander. BLACKMORE, Gerald - Passed away suddenly on September 9, 2002 at the Health Sciences Centre, in Winnipeg, Clarence Gerald Blackmore of Thompson, Manitoba, age 74 years. Gerald was born in Valleyfield, NF on August 13, 1928. He moved to Thompson in 1975 and retired in 1997. Predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Alfreda Blackmore and brother Fred. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of fifty-two years, Faye. Sons: Karl, Wayne (Shawna) in Thompson, daughter Linda in The Pas. Grandchildren: Brian (Trina) in Gander, NF, Michael (Susan) and Loretta in The Pas and Christopher in Thompson. Great-grandchildren Kylie, Victoria and Madison. Two sisters Helena Winsor (Jacob) in St. John`s, NF, and Myrtis Mason (Gilbert) in Port Union, NF, plus numerous relatives and friends. BUTTON, Dorothy - Passed away quietly at Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, August 27, 2002, in her 87th year. Mrs. Dorothy Button of New Chelsea. Dora Button came from Scotland in 1947 to Newfoundland as a war bride. She brought with her two young sons to their new home in New Chelsea, with her husband Eugene. Four years later they were blessed with the girl they always wanted. In the early 50`s the primary school, half of the two room school in New Chelsea, was left without a teacher and Dora was pressed into service as a temporary teacher. That was the start of a twenty year teaching career wherein she earned the respect of her students and the community for her caring and dedication to teaching. Predeceased by her loving husband Eugene; two sisters: Cathy and Nancy; three brothers: Ian, Allister and Jack, all in WWII. Leaving to mourn two sons: Sandy (Emy) and Bill (Dorothy), both of Ontario; one daughter, Shirley Riddle (Bill), Small Point; one sister, Mamie, St. John`s; two sisters-in-law: Vida Button and Ruth Single (Frank); six grandchildren: Elliott (Francine), Brian (Karen), Scott (Michelle), Shelly (Bryan), Kimberley (Warren) and Lita-Mae; four great-grandchildren: Rayne, Sadie, Reena and Tyler.
