REID, Darrell John - May 5, 1951-May 20, 2006. Died suddenly on Saturday, May 20th, 2006, Darrell John Reid of Dildo, aged 55 years. Predeceased by his parents Fred Reid (1991) and Bessie (2002). Leaving to mourn his loving daughters, Tara (Brendan Chafe), Harbour Grace, Trista, St. John's, and their mother Josie; one granddaughter, Madison. His very special friend Eleanor Mayo. Also leaving to mourn three brothers, Vern (Melba), Fred (Mary), Ron (Bea); four sisters, Marjorie (Ray Gosse), Phyllis (Irving Moore), Jean (Wayne Pinsent), Betty (Larry McIsaac). Also lovingly remembered by a large number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Dildo, with visitation Monday, May 22nd and Tuesday, May 23rd, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; Wednesday, May 24th 10 a.m.-12:00 noon. The funeral service will be held from the Salvation Army Citadel TBS Corps on Wednesday, May 24th at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Salvation Army Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice or the Darrell Reid Memorial Fund.

REID, Gilbert James - Passed peacefully away on Monday, April 10, 2006 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, Gilbert James Reid, age 85 years of Mount Pearl. Predeceased by his parents, Janet and Naaman Reid of New Melbourne and his sister Ethel Ryan. Leaving to mourn with loving and cherished memories, his wife of 46 years, Emma (nee: Hellyer); daughters: Heather Mawhinney (Kevin) of Ottawa and Karen McCormack (Mike) of St. John's; son: Gilbert (Jackie) of St. John's; and Grandchildren: Nicholas and Frances Reid of St. John's and Sarah Mawhinney of Ottawa; brother: Cecil (Margaret) of Montreal; brothers-in-law: Gerald Ryan, George Hillier (Joan McCarthy), Eric Hellyer (Hettie), Graham Hillier (Margaret) and Aubrey Reid; as well as a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 7 pm - 9 pm , Wednesday, April 12, 2006 from 10 am - 12 pm, 2 pm - 5 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm and on Thursday, April 13, 2006 from 10 am - 12 pm. Funeral Service to take place on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 2 pm from First United Church, Mount Pearl. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. REID, John C. - July 31, 1934 - January 8, 2006. Passed suddenly away at his home in Green's Harbour on Sunday, January 8, 2006, John C. Reid, aged 71 years. Predeceased by parents, Samuel and Triffie Reid; two sisters: Jennie Duffett and Olive Chapman. Leaving to mourn loving wife Evelyn (March); two daughters: Margie Smith (Leonard), Marilyn Williams (James); two sons: Toby (Alice), Alex (Cathy); nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; also lovingly remembered by two sisters: Shirley Reid (Claude), Gwen Toope; one brother, Gordon (Phyllis); one aunt, Jessie Reader, Bloomfield; a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Faith United Church, Green's Harbour, Monday, January 9th, 2:00 p.m. until time of funeral. The funeral service was held from Faith United Church, Green's Harbour on Wednesday, January 11th at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed at Faith United Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to Faith United Church, Green's Harbour. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Dildo.

REID, S. Ross - Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at the Palliative Care Unit of the L.A. Miller Centre, on June 30, 2006, Ross Reid of Mount Pearl, formerly of New Harbour, age 69 years. Predeceased by his parents Silas and Bertha and his brother Herbert. He is the beloved husband of Mary (nee Colford); loving father of Christina (John Brown) of Bay Roberts and Robert (Lori Head-Reid) of Mount Pearl, and wonderful Poppy to Patrick, Michael and Laura Brown. Sadly missed by his sisters Major Violet Reid, Alma (Beric Reid), Edna (Thorne) and Nancy (John Wiseman); fondly remembered by his in-laws Catherine Murphy, Jim Colford, Edward (Brenda) Colford and Margaret Williams, as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was a long time employee of the Federal Public Service, a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan and was always ready with a joke, a story and a smile. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2, 10-12 Noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Ross' life will be Monday, July 3 at 10 a.m. from St. Peter's Church, Mount Pearl, with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

REID, Whilamina (nee Squires) - December 20, 1916 - January 2, 2006. Passed peacefully away at the Placentia Health Centre on Monday, January 2, 2006, Whilamina Reid of Chapel Arm, aged 89 years. Predeceased by husband Aubrey John (1999), sons: George (1970) and Everett (1989). Left to mourn with fond and loving memories; daughters: Ada Thorne (Robert), Florence Dunphy, Marjorie Thorne (Thomas); sons: Ernest (Mary), Rexton, Kenneth (Gloria), Noel (Betty), Alonzo (Vira), Seward, Hayward (Patricia), Christopher (Arlette). Twenty-one grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also lovingly remembered by one brother: George (Sylvia); sisters-in-law: Jessie Reid, Mary Reid, Sarah Reid; a large number of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends. Rested at St. John the Baptist Church, Chapel Arm. The Funeral Service was held from St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday, January 5th at 2:00 pm. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Long Harbour Road. As expressions of sympathy flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to St. John the Baptist Memorial Fund. RENDELL, Ida L. - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, on Monday, July 30, 2006, Miss Ida Rendell of Heart's Content, aged 92 years. Predeceased by companion Robert Rodgers 2002; parents: Bela and Suzanna Rendell; brothers: James, Arthur, Edwin and Raymond. Leaving to mourn, with fond and loving memories special niece: Jean Piercey (Wallace) and family, Mt. Pearl, Jennifer Rendell, Winnipeg and Beverley Rendell, Heart's Content; sister: Isabel Pulsifer (Stan), Brampton, ON; sister-in-law: Myrtle Rendell, Heart's Content; also a large circle of nieces, nephews and the Rodgers family members and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff of Hillcrest Estates, Mt. Pearl, Doctors and staff, 4NA Health Sciences Centre for care and compassion. Resting at Green's Funeral Home, Winterton. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-5 and 7-9 pm, Wednesday visitation will take place at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Heart's Content from 10 am - 12 noon. ROWE, Nathan Eric - Passed peacefully away at his home, surrounded by loved ones on March 24, 2006 at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by his parents, William and Phoebe of Chance Cove; sisters: Stella Russell, Jenny, Carrie Walters, Fronie Pike; brother William and twin brother Reginald; brothers-in-law: Brig. Alpheus Russell, Fred Walters and Rex Russell. Left with loving memories his devoted wife Alicia (nee Winsor); sons: Geoff (Beverly), Bradley (Maureen), Todd (Lisa) and Trevor (Gennita); grandchildren: Robert, Christopher, Jennifer, Sarah, Nathan, Luke, Samantha, Emily, Eric, Zoe and Lauren; sister Melva Russell; brothers: Maxwell (Dorothy) and Edmund (Shirley); also his brother-in-law Ray Pike and sisters-in-law: Doris and Alma; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. At his request, cremation has taken place. RYAN, Harold Bert - Passed peacefully away on May 24th at the Palliative Care Unit of the Bonavista Hospital in the presence of his wife Doris of 48 years and his loving daughter Gail. Bert Ryan of Catalina in his 71st year. Bert slipped into God's presence very peacefully as our Minister, Rev. Cook was saying a prayer. Bert leaves to mourn beside his wife , one daughter Gail and son-in-law Wallace Warren; two grandchildren, who were such a pleasure to him, Ryan and Nicole; also leaving to mourn three brothers: Clarence (Eleanor), Gary (Sonia), Derek (Genny); one sister, Verna (Ben Duffett); two sisters-in-law: Bernice (Bill Baker), Bill was also Bert's very special friend and Alma Tippett; one aunt, Dorothy Bridger of Deer Lake; also many nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of friends. Resting at Strathies Funeral Home until 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral service at Bethany United Church, Catalina. Cremation to follow.

SMITH, Chesley M., WWII Royal Navy - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Monday, July 24, 2006, Chesley Smith of Sunnyside, aged 84 years. Predeceased by first wife Myrtle, daughter Christine and son Alvin. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Susannah of 21 years; daughters: Clara Best (Cyril), Arnold's Cove, Doreen Billard (Samuel), Sunnyside, Karen Boland (Albert), Sunnyside, and Linda Al-Molky (Jason), Fredericton, NB; sons: Bert (Marion), Sunnyside, Vernon (Gwen), Sunnyside and Rodney, Edmonton; step-sons: Clev Ingram (Judy), Goulds and Clarence Ingram (Karen), Bermuda; step-daughter Melva Stacey (Ford), Red Deer, AB; sister Rachel Lambert, Sunnyside, Pearl Langmead (Ed), St. John's and Joyce Gregory (Reg), Clarenville; brother Wilson (Ruby), Sunnyside and Ernest (Hazel), Robert's Arm; seventeen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Cremation took place on Wednesday, July 26, 2006. Interment held on Thursday, July 27, 2006 in the presence of his family.

SNELGROVE, Rex W.M.,/font> - Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family, at the Health Sciences Centre, on April 21, 2006, Rex W.M. Snelgrove, age 63 years. Originally of Grates Cove, T.B. Predeceased by his mother Elizabeth, 1984 and his first grandchild Aaron Snelgrove, 1998. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 40 years, Rose (nee Oliver); three sons: Keith (Kim), Scott (Kim) and Trevor; grandchildren: Emily, Evan and Logan, who were the joy of his life; sister Betty Oliver; brothers: Ross (Joan) and Wilfred (Sylvia); his aunt, Evelyn Strong; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn the love of her life, her devoted husband Arthur of 60 years; children: Blanche (Alfred Stringer), Hughie (Beverly), Terry (Wanda), Christine (Late Junior Seward), Patsy (Stanley Soper), Leon (Joanne), Karen (Angus Sutherland), Geoffrey, Norma Baker, Randy (Diane), Shawn (Norma) and Denise (Rodney Pottle); daughter-in-law Marjorie; 33 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and a large number of family and friends. Resting at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2006 from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment at the Interdenominational Cemetery, Clarenville. Miller Centre on January 4, 2006, after a short battle with cancer, Frederick Stagg of Catalina, age 69. Predeceased by parents, Frederick and Elizabeth; sister Edril. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife Annie (nee Lane); daughter Minnetta (Jerry Matchem); sons: Winston (Wendy), Burnaby, BC, Michael (Robin), Mississauga, ON; two grandchildren: Zachary and Claudia (poppy's little treasures); brothers: John (Pat), Heber (Rose), Harley (Margaret); sisters: Lillian (Ron Dalton, deceased), June (Eugene Johnson), Mary (George Cooper, deceased), Myrtle (Gerald Russell), Phyllis (Dennis LeGrow); brothers-in-law: Tom Lane (Anita), Catalina and Jerry Lane (Francine), Oakville, Ontario; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband William Robert (1984), brother Ben Norman (2003), sister Daisy Stead (1996) and Brother-in-law Joe Mercer (2003). Left with fond and loving memories her Son, Samuel (Anne), Daughters, Lynn (John), Donna (Brian), her sister Emma Mercer St. John's, Sister-in-law Amy Norman (Port Union), Brother-in-law Melvin Stead (Lethbridge), 12 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great -Great grandchildren, Very special friend Roda-May and Diane, along with numerous other relatives and dear friends. Resting at Strathie's Funeral Home in Catalina. Funeral services at St. Peters Anglican Church in Catalina and Internment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Catalina.

STOWE, Robert - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Sunday, February 26, 2006, Robert Stowe of Clarenville, aged 67 years. Predeceased by his father John and mother Nora, brothers Douglas and Reg. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his sister: Phyllis Baggs (Chesley) and Joan Balsom (Ray), Mount Pearl; brother: Jerry (Edie), Hamilton, ON; very close nieces and nephews and a large number of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held at Fewer's Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Memorial service held Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from Salvation Army Citadel, Clarenville. In his memory donations may be made to Salvation Army, Clarenville or Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital.

STRYDE, Robert Joseph - 1965 - 2006. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Robert Stryde announce his tragic death in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia on May 29, 2006. Robert was 40 yeas old and formerly from Lewisporte, NL. He recently retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after 21 years of service. He leaves to mourn his wife Verna and three children: Staci, Daniel and Charlie; parents, Harry and Elvina Stryde, Lewisporte; brothers: James (Doreen) Stryde of Sunnyside, NL, Peter Stryde, Halifax, NS; sisters: Marilyn (Sean) Furey, Dartmouth, NS, Susan (Michael) Jones, Iowa City; parents-in-law, Linsay and Elsie Duffett, Shoal Harbour, NL; brother-in-law Sandy (Maxine) Duffett, Shoal Hr., NL; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, Lewisporte. Funeral Service to take place on Saturday, June 3 at 2 p.m. from Salvation Army Citadel in Lewisporte. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund set up for Robert and Verna's children.

Predeceased by his parents, Brendon and Annie, brother Aaron. Left with fond and loving memories his three sisters: June Stanley, Norma Piercey and Ida Stanley; one brother: Gordon Tilley; one sister-in-law: Joan Tilley; a number of caring nieces and nephews and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains will be resting at Fewer's Funeral Home in Clarenville on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. Funeral will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the Salvation Army Citadel with interment at Pleasant Street Cemetery in Clarenville. Predeceased by his parents, Abram and Martha Tucker; sister Marjorie; brothers-in-law: Maxwell and Hayward Porter; sisters-in-law's husbands: Albert Morgan and Ralph Moore. Leaving to mourn wife Mildred; two sons: Eric (Marjorie), Vernon; two daughters: Marjorie (Robert) Taylor, Judy (Edwin) Snow; seven grandchildren: Robbie and Brian Tucker, Ryan, Jordon and Ashley Taylor, Toby and Jillian Snow; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Morgan, Ethel Moore, Lorraine Tippett; brother-in-law Harry (Sylvia) Porter; deceased brothers-in-law's wives: Marjorie Porter and Beulah Porter; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Moore's Funeral Home, Bay Roberts. Visitation was held Thursday 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2-5 p.m., 7-9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral service took place on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Luke's Anglican Church, Port de Grave. Interment in the St. Luke's Anglican Cemetery, Port de Grave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit, Carbonear General Hospital.
