VARDY, Margaret M. - Passed away suddenly at the Dr. G.B. Cross Hospital in Clarenville on October 5th, 2000. Margaret M. Vardy of Clarenville, formerly of Johnshaven, Scotland, in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husbands Gordon Martin and George Vardy. Left with fond and loving memories, daughters: Kathleen Crofts, Toronto, Ont., Georgina Barry (Jack), Clarenville; sons: Fred, Hoyles-Escasoni, St. John`s, Edward, Kincardine, Ont.; sister May Bain (Jack), South Africa; many nieces and nephews in South Africa, Scotland and U.S.A.; grandchildren: Shaun Barry, Heather Barry Ford, Michael Barry, Stephaine Walsh (Barry), Mark and Davey Thistle, Nicole and Angela Vardy; eight great-grandchildren; and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains rested at Fewer`s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral was held 3 p.m. on October 8th from Memorial United Church in Clarenville with interment at the United Church Cemetery, Clarenville. In Her Memory Memorial Fund to Hoyles Escasoni Complex, St. John`s.

VEY, Daniel - Passed peacefully away on August 19, 2000 at the palliative care unit, St. Clare`s Hospital, Daniel Vey, aged 94 years. Predeceased by his wife Julia (1991) and son Reginald (1994). Leaving to mourn: four sons, Petley (Ada), Barrie, Ont., Chesley (Joan) with whom he resided, Raye (Vernita), St. John`s, Harvey (Margaret), Labrador City; two daughters, Sybil (Job) Blackmore and Joyce Morris, St. John`s; and daughter-in-law Veenie, Clarenville. Also leaving to mourn, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to daughter-in-law Joan for her loving service and care over the years. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Sunday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m.-12 noon. Funeral service to take place from the Anglican Cathedral on Monday, August 21, 2000 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation or the St. Clare`s Palliative Care Unit.

VOKEY, Mary L. (nee Thorne) - Passed away suddenly at the Dr. W.H. Newhook Community Health Center, Whitbourne, on Monday, September 25th, 2000 Mary Vokey of New Harbour. Age 61 years. Leaving to mourn her six children: Joyce Martin (Dale), Ruby Crocker (Christopher), Wayne (Beverley), Rick (Karen), Patsy Hefford (Don), Don (Louise); 12 grandchildren: Darryn, Dawn, Christopher, David, Evan, Megan, Erica, Levi, Max, Trista, Myles and Chad. Also lovingly remembered by 3 sisters and 5 brothers; a large number of other relatives and many friends. Resting at Warren`s Funeral Home, Dildo. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Augustine`s Anglican Church, New Harbour on Thursday, September 28th at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Whitbourne.

WARREN, Harry Nelson - Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, December 12, 2000, Harry Warren of Chapel Arm, age 58 years. Predeceased by his parents, Heber and Matilda Warren, sister Alice; brother Harris. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, wife Audrey, daughter Tracey, son Dwayne, brother Heber Jr., sister Phoebe (Don Smith), as well as other relatives and friends. Resting at St. John the Baptist Church, Chapel Arm (starting Thursday). Time of Funeral to be announced. No flowers by request, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

WARREN, Jean (Matilda Jane) - Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2001 in her 60th year, Jean (Matilda Jane) Warren of Chapel Arm. Predeceased by her husband Harris Warren, father Cecil Rose, and brother Fred Rose. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughter Joyce Smith (Wallace), son Cecil (Kathy), daughter Paulette (Craig) Tavenor; mother Joy Rose; grandchildren: Nicole, Ashley, Justin, Brittany, Troy and Abagail; sisters: Hettie (Reg) Blagdon, Eunice Savory, Maude (Jim) Strowbridge, Mildred (Cecil) Scott; brothers: John (Mona) Rose, Melvin (Beryl) Rose; brother-in-law Heber Warren Jr.; sisters-in-law: Audrey Warren and Phoebe (Don) Smith; as well as a large circle of friends and relatives. Resting at St. John the Baptist Church, Chapel Arm, where the funeral will take place on Friday, May 25th, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made, in her memory, to the St. John the Baptist Cemetery Fund. Special thanks given to her daughter Joyce Smith who cared for her so lovingly in her final months with us.

WELCHER, Annabelle (nee Gardner) - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center on Tuesday, November 21, 2000, Annabelle Welcher (nee Gardner). Aged 62 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her husband Chesley; two daughters: Jean Prosper (Darryl) and Paula Rodriguez (Roberto); one son Ches Jr. (Sharon); five grandchildren: Lucas, Kayla, Jessica, Nicole and Aleisha; three sisters: Leona Duffett, Hickman`s Harbour, Lillian Miller (Giles), New Bonaventure and Johanna Christensen, Long Island, New York; two brothers: Leander Gardner (Gloria), Petley, and Harold Gardner (Effie), Lady Cove; also a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 1081 Topsail Road, Mt. Pearl, from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Wednesday; and 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Thursday. Funeral Service to be held at Church of the Ascension, Smallwood Drive, Mt. Pearl at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 23, 2000. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Church of the Ascension, Building Fund.

WESTCOTT, Carol Angela - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Monday, January 31, 2000, Carol Angela Westcott, aged 88 years. Predeceased by her husband Reg, 1980 and son Robert, 1997. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughter-in-law Mary, Oakville, Ontario; sister Louise Carter (Gordon), Oakville, Ontario; brother-in-law Jim Kendell (Alma), Scarborough, Ontario; brother Bill in Clarenville; also many other friends and relatives. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 2-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2000 from Barrett`s Chapel. Interment to follow at the St. Peter`s Anglican Cemetery, Upper Gullies. No flowers by request, as expressions of sympathy donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.

WHALEN, Gwen - Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex, St. John`s, on Monday, July 31st, 2000 Julia Gwen Whalen, in her 78th year, after a long battle with Alzheimers and Cancer. Leaving to mourn her husband Daniel; two step-daughters: Anne Ryan (Francis), Trepassey, Catherine Power (Leonard), Burin; one step-son John, Trepassey; step-brother Charlie Saunders (Madge), Greens Harbour, Trinity Bay; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Fahey`s Funeral Home, Trepassey. Funeral on Wednesday, August 2nd at 11 a.m. from Holy Redeemer Church, Trepassey. Interment to follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Trepassey.

Predeceased by father Nathaniel Sr. Left with fond and loving memory, wife Carol Ann (Bobbit) of 32 years; mother Lillian; daughters Connie (husband Jodey Seward), Pauline (special friend Trevor Seward); sons Brent (fiance Jessie), Dean (wife Gina); sisters Betty Stringer, Mary (husband Francis Lawlor), Lillian (husband Ted Drover), Sylvia (husband Randy Lambert), Darlene (husband Brad Taylor), Marlene (husband Ron Barron); brothers Edward (wife Ann), Edgar (wife Allison), Lyndon (wife Daisy), Albert (wife Beverly), Paul (wife Denise); two grandchildren, Danielle and Colby and nieces and nephews. Resting at Wesley United Church, Caplin Cove from which funeral will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2000. Interment at United Cemetery in Caplin Cove. Memorial Fund to United Church or to the Heart and Diabetes Fund.

WHITE, David Lewis - Passed away suddenly at Jackson`s Manor, New Harbour, on Saturday, December 9, 2000, David Lewis White, aged 77 years, of Whitbourne. Leaving to mourn: sisters: Florence Bailey (Charles), Edmonton, and Effie Drodge, St. John`s; sister-in-law, Merida White, Whitbourne, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Resting at Holloway`s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. from the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in his memory to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne.
