ROWSELL, F/O Cyril Rowland, Service # 788667 of Port Blandford, Newfoundland.
Enlisted Feburary 26, 1941 [Ref: Directorate of History and Heritage document 79/201] 415 Sqn - WOP
Commissioned March 14, 1943 [Flight Lieutenant].
Distinguished Flying Cross awarded as per London Gazette dated November 7, 1944 [DFC - 441107]

Cyril completed two tours of operational duty as a wireless operator, during which he participated in attacks on many heavily defended targets in Germany including Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Stettin and Berlin. His skill and determination has contributed much to the successes obtained.

NOTE: DHist file 181.009 D.1633 [(RG.24 Vol. 20603] has recommendation dated August 30, 1944, when he had flown six sorties in Coastal Command
(17-29 August 1942, 45 hours 50 minutes) and 48 sorties in Bomber Command, [3 December 1942 to 19 June 1943 and 29 January to 7 August 1944, 259
hours 50 minutes in all].

Date of demobilizion May 15, 1946

Cyril Rowsell passed away on October 5, 2004 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, aged 81 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Isobel (nee Woolley), brother, Augustus and sister, Annette Snow. He left to mourn his daughter, Jane (Maxwell Bussey) of Gander.
Funeral service took place at St. Martin 's Anglican Church and he was interred at All Saints Cemetery, Gander, on October 7.
