I was the first person of Horse Cove/St Thomas NL to volunteer in the RCAF or any air force though guys had gone in the army and navy.
I volunteered as 201288 LAC Laurie, MJ. from 5 Jan 53 to 4 Jan 56. I served in the military fire department following training in Ontario. I served initially in York and Nottingham shires, England and at Metz, France and #2 Fighter RCAF base at Grostenquin, France.
I am on furlough in July, l955, at Nottingham,Notts. England, at age 20 years when the above photo was taken. I was wearing a khaki-coloured, gabardine uniform at the time. It was our summer one and we wore Air Force blue in colder weather,
