MELVILLE ROYSTON RUSSELL - Regt. No. 2365
Donated by Warren Marrs
Melville was a bugler with The First Newfoundland Regiment in WW1. There is a possibility that he overstated his age upon enlistment. He was a letter carrier prior to volunteering. He joined the service on March 3, 1916, embarked St. John's aboard S.S. Sicilian August 28, 1916 for the UK. Embarked for the British Expeditionary Force March 25, 1917 and disembarked Rouen March 26, 1917; joined the Battalion April 18, 1917, and was killed in action November 20, 1917. Two of the medals awarded were the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal (1914-18). |
