application Embarked from St John's for UK on the SS Sicilian, Aug 28, 1916 Embarked Southampton Nov 30, 1916 Disembarked at Rouen Dec 1, 1916 Joined C Company Dec 12, 1916 KIA France Mar 2, 1917 Awarded two medals - Victory Medal and British War Medal. Medals delivered to father, James Powell Dec 8, 1921 Burial information: Garland was killed in action at Sailly-Saillisel and is remembered on the Beaumont-Hamel Memorial. A headstone was erected by his parents in his memory in the Eastport Holy Cross Anglican Cemetery.
