Grandfather to Ronald Gordon Noseworthy (of Placentia, NL)


Frederick GORDON’s Father;
Born: 15 July 1892 - St. John’s, NL
65 Cashin Avenue, St. John’s Newfoundland
Died: 30 June 1959 Aged- 66


WWI veteran - private #527, volunteer as a British citizen from the colony in 1918, enlisted 16 Sept. 1914;
Involved in the British Mediterranean Expedition Force, served with 1st Composite Battalion, W.E. F. (Suez), British Expeditionary Force;
Served in Gallipoli ,1915, & France, 1916 in front lines;
Wounded in Marcoing; medically discharged while on furlough, in St. John’s Dec. 5th, 1918…”being no longer physically fit for war service on account of wounds received in action.”
Shot twice(2) in right forearm & left leg and had surgery once; recovered and sent back to war;

Member of the 500 Fighting Newfoundlanders know as the Blue Putties.
Only regiment to receive the Queen’s recognition for their valor and courage in WWII, now know as the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
Only a few handful of men returned from that original regiment.

Tried his hand first at farming in Markland, NL,…post war land grant given to returning service men. However, after a few years sold the land and returned to St. John’s with son & wife.
Skillful cooper ( maker of wooden barrel for transportation)
Became an administrator post war at Bowring Brothers in St. John’s

3 Gold medals in Victory Regatta 1919, (August? ) St. John’s, NL (1 confimed via photo; researching other 2)
Stroke for winning crew in Football Race with J. R. Stick, E. Churchill, M. Churchill, W. Drover, E. Chafe, J. Boone (cox), & Coach T. Hallen.
