My Uuncle John was known as ( Jack. ). He was born Feb. 2, 1898 to Leah Kate ( Brown ) Nicol and Henry Thomas Nicol.
He was born in their house , # 11 at the time , now # 9 Flavin Street ( same house just different numbers ).
He attended The Presbyterian School and always won an award in school . Every year. As a matter of fact I have books he won as a prize. He joined the Highlanders while there .
He joined the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at the CLB . Armoury, on Mar. 9 , 1914 , ( he was only a boy) and discharged St. John's , NL. , Mar. 28 , 1919. Having served 1640 days or 4 years 205 days. He had to use a walking stick , because of Frostbite.
He married Mary Scott at the Church of England in Topsail, on July 4,1931 They had one child , Dorothy Mary , born Jan.31 , 1936.
Uncle John ( Jack ) passed away 9 Jan 1954 and his wife passed away 3 Nov 1953. Their daughter, Dorothy, never married. She passed away on June 7, 2011.
