Robert Michelin was born March 18, 1890 at Mud Lake, Labrador. He enlisted July 24th, 1915 and was assigned to Company G of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. He served at the front in France from June 1916 until he suffered a shell wound to his leg on April 14th, 1917. He was then shipped to England and eventually to St. John's where he was discharged from service on May 25th, 1918 and finally from the hospital in the fall of that year. Aboriginal troops were sometimes delayed in their return home because of the remoteness of their villages. This was the case Robert Michelin, having been released in the fall, when there were no more steamers to Labrador until the following spring. He settled and married in Traverspine/Happy Valley, Labrador where died, June 28th, 1972. Robert was the brother of Joseph
