The photo was taken in April of 1917 in France on William's 19th birthday. John was 17.

John  Maynard enlisted just before his 17th Birthday on 13 Nov 1917. He embarked Glasgow on the HMS Cassandra on 24 June 1919 after being wounded (gassed). He was discharged on 9 Aug 1919 in St. John's, NF.
