Sergeant Ludwig Duncan Hoddinott  Regt # 2234

Ludwig Duncan Hoddinott was born June 1893. At 22 years of age, he enlisted in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and was assigned Regt # 2234.  On May 9,1916 promoted to A/Corp and on June 9,1916 promoted to A/Sgt. He was dispatched from St Johns (draft #9) on July 19,1916 aboard the SS Sicilian.   Embarkation date (to France ?) October 3, 1916. Sgt Hoddinot died in battle on April 14, 1917. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

The photo above was taken October 7, 1916 in Newfoundland then sent to his mother Mrs Augustus Hoddinott (Caroline Payne Hoddinott) from France.
