Many people are familar with, or have heard of "Jukes Excursions". Joseph Beete Jukes was a geologist appointed by the Genealogical Society of London, to do a survey of Newfoundland. He completed this survey all around the island of Newfoundland, with the exception of White Bay and the North Peninsula. The following are lists of inhabitants taken from Jukes' notes. The recent publication of "Jukes Excursions" by Robert Cuff and Derek Wilton, does not contain the material on this site. For an explanation, I refer you to this quote from Fred Pafford. "This version of "Jukes' Excursions" is not the first publication of his "Joseph Beete's" material. It would seem that other earlier publications may have contained more detail. On page vii of the introduction it states; "Shortly after Jukes' death, in 1871, his sister edited a volume of LETTERS AND EXTRACTS FROM THE ADDRESSES AND OCCASIONAL WRITINGS OF J. BEETE JUKES." It would appear that this was the original reference material for books that followed and was more complete. Other books listed are
