Last will and testament
of James Wyse
of Placentia Planter deceased
.

In the name of God Amen. I James Wyse of Placentia in the Southern District of the Island of Newfoundland, Planter, being of sound mind, though grievously afflicted with bodily disease do hereby make my last will and testament. I die a member of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, in which I have had the happiness to be baptised and I hope for salvation through atonement of its Founder, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I desire that my debts which are few amounting to some forty five dollars be paid without any unnecessary delay. I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Margaret Wyse, for her use and the use of my children, all the property I die possessed of whether real or personal and consisting of cash in the Savings Bank, land and house, store and outhouses in the town of Placentia, garden on Dixons Hill; land and barn in Jordan's Cove and land on Herring Bay Point North East Arm horse cattle sheep farming implements household utensils, my interest in fishing boat and gear lines twines flakes, small boats; and all other property I die possessed of. I desire that my fishing property in which, I possess one half interest, the other half being vested in my brother Richard may go on and be conducted in the same manner in which it has been conducted since my partnership with my dear brother Richard Wyse. I desire that my son Richard Francis Wyse, by my first wife, whose health is delicate be treated by my dear wife Margaret as one of her own children that her home may be his as long as he needs it and I impress on him and all my other dear children, obedience to the guidance of their dear mother and stepmother in whose providence and good management I have the fullest confidence. I desire also that all my property will be distributed at my dear wifes death amongst my children so that as they settle down due regard will be had to making some provision for them as to a place to build a house or otherwise due regard being had to the circumstances of the homestead and to the obedience and other good qualities of the child full discretion being given to their mother to act as I would advise her to act if I were present. I desire to leave my dear wife and children my last blessing and I ask of my God the Father of the Fatherless to bless and protect my dear wife and little ones. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and subscribed my seal at Placentia this fifteenth day of December Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and ninety. - First appointing my dear wife Margaret Wyse my executor.
