Will of Catherine Wrey Last Will and Testament of I Catherine Wrey of Twillingate in the Island of Newfoundland but at present of St. John's wife of Captain Richard Wrey do declare this to be my last will and Testament and I hereby revoke all former wills, codicils, testamentary dispositions and appointments whatever by me at any time heretofore made. I direct that as soon after my decease as shall be practically convenient my Executor hereinafter named shall pay out of my monies all my funeral and testamentary expenses and all lawful debts then due by me. And I further direct that upon my decease that my remains shall be removed from Twillingate to St. John's there to be interred in the Mount Carmel Cemetery and that my Executor shall have erected a suitable monument over my grave and also shall enclose my grave with an ornamental iron railing. I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Bridget Frances Hunter of Twillingate aforesaid the following severally described properties namely all that piece or parcel of land situate in Water Street in the Town of St. John's aforesaid and bounded as follows that is to say on the north by property belonging to T & M Winter on the South by Water Street and on the east by St. John's lane and on the west by property belonging to Michael Power together with all erections thereon (it is my express desire and a condition upon which the foregoing bequest is made that my said daughter Bridget Frances Hunter shall not sell or dispose of the said land on Water Street) also all that other piece or parcel of land together with the Dwelling house and all other erections thereon situate on Barters Hill in the Town of St. John's aforesaid and bounded as follows that is to say on the North by land leased to one William Smith by which it measures one hundred and thirty feet more or less on the south by land belonging to James Hickey by which it measures one hundred and thirty feet more or less. On the east by land occupied by one Keane by which it measures forty feet more or less and on the west by the said Barters Hill by which it measures forty feet more or less. And also all that other piece or parcel of land together with all erections thereon situate in Balsom Street in the Town of St. John's aforesaid by which it measures forty feet or thereabouts in breadth and forty five feet or thereabouts from front to rear. And also all that piece or parcel of land situate at Twillingate aforesaid upon which my dwelling house is built together with my said Dwelling House and all other erections thereon. And also all that other piece or parcel of land situate at Twillingate aforesaid upon which my store and wharf are built together with my said store and wharf. I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Bridget Frances Hunter all my household furniture goods chattels and personal effects consisting of Silver China and Glassware, beds and bedding, my Gold watch chain and trinkets and broach and any other jewelry that I may die possessed of subject to the charge hereinafter mentioned and to the conditions hereinafter expressed. Of the monies standing to my credit in the Newfoundland Savings Bank I make the following bequests.
The residue of my estate I give and bequeath to my said daughter Bridget Frances Hunter which bequest together with the previous bequests to her are subject to annual charge of forty dollars to be paid to the Roman Catholic Bishop at St. John's for the purpose of having low masses celebrated in the Cathedral St. John's for the repose of my soul and I direct that immediately after my death my executor shall notify the Roman Catholic Bishop of St. John's of the said charge of forty dollars for the celebration of low masses as aforesaid. The
condition upon which the foregoing bequests to my said daughter Bridget
Frances Hunter are made, are that, I appoint Charles A. M. Pinsent of St. John's accountant sole executor of this my last will and Testament. Dated at St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland this third day of November Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and ninety two. (Sgd) Catherine Wrey. Signed by the said Catherine Wrey the within named Testatrix as her last will and Testament in the presence of us both being present at the same time who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
