Last will and Testament
of William Woodford
of St. John's Master Mariner Deceased
.

This is the last will and testament of me William Woodford at present of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland Master Mainer. I devise and bequeath to my son William that farm situate on the Topsail Road about nine miles from St. John's and adjoining the property of one Parrell together with the cottage and outhouse thereon erected and also all farming utensils on the said farm and furniture in said cottage outhouse, also my horse carriage harness and carts &c also I give devise and bequeath to my said son William that piece of land situate at River Head in the town of Saint John's aforesaid containing about three quarters of an acre and purchased by me from one Richard Walsh together with the two dwelling houses erected thereon, the said property adjoins land lately in the occupancy of Captain Dea. Also I give devise and bequeath to my said son William the two double houses containing four tenements situate on Gower Street and at present in the occupancy of Kennedy Peters Skinner McDonald and Carroll also I give devise and bequeath to my said son William all my right title and interest in and two thirty acres of unenclosed land situate at Salmon Cove and purchased by me from Baine Johnston and Company as mortgagors. To have and to hold the said several pieces of land and dwelling houses to my said son for ever.
I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Woodford that range of houses situate on Briens Street West and containing eight tenements and occupied by Guzzle Long Bolon Mellins Knight Flynn and two vacant to have the rents profits and issues arising out of this same for her support and maintenance during her life and at her death the said range of eight tenements is to go and be owned and I hereby devise and bequeath the same to my son John. Also I give devise and bequeath to my said wife the house I now reside in to have the rents profits and issues arising out of the same for her support and maintenance during her life and on her death the same is to go to my said son John. And I hereby devise and bequeath the same to him.
Also I devise and bequeath to my said son John when he shall have attained the age of thirty years the house or tenement situate next door to the one I now reside in and occupied by one Vey and the rents profits and issues arising out of the said house from the date of my death till my said son shall arrive at the age of thirty go to my said wife. I also give devise and bequeath to my said wife the house situate in Convent Square occupied by Capt. ??? to have the rents profits and issues arising out of the same for her support and maintenance during her life and at her death the said house is to go to my daughter Mary and I hereby devise and bequeath the same to her. Also I give devise and bequeath the house situate on Patrick Street and at present occupied by one Murphy and Kavanagh to my daughter Mary when she shall have attained the age of thirty years and the rents profits and issues arising out of the same from my death till my said daughter shall have arrived at the said age and shall go to my said wife for her maintenance and support.
I desire that my executor hereinafter mentioned shall out of whatever monies I shall die possessed of first pay all my just debts and funeral and testamentary bequests and the balance remaining on shall be distributed and paid as follows. The sum of eight hundred dollars to my daughter Maria Woodford in Religion Sister Aloysius in Torbay Convent. Also to my said daughter Maria Woodford the sum of two hundred dollars due to me his Lordship the Bishop of St. John's as my share in St. Peters Church formerly the Fisherman's Hall situate in Queen Street in the town of St. John's aforesaid
The sum of six hundred dollars to my daughter Fanny Woodford in Religion Sister Eulalia in a convent at Halifax Nova Scotia.
The sum of eight hundred and forty nine dollars amount of government stock to my wife Sarah in her own right to dispose of as she may think by her last will and testament. I desire that my executor will expend in perpetuity for masses for the repose of my soul the interest arising out of one share in the floating dock of Saint John's. I devise and bequeath to my wife for her use during her life all my household furniture and personal effects and at her death the same to go to my son John. I appoint Edward P. Morris Barrister at Law sole executor of this my will. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name by affixing my mark at St. John's aforesaid this 15th day of July A.D. 1889 Signed by the said Testator by affixing his mark thereto and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto the same having been read over and explained to the said testator.
