Will of John Turner

In re
      John Turner          deceased.

      In the name of God Amen this is the last will and testament of me John Turner of Saint John’s in the Island of Newfoundland Planter    I desire that as soon as practicable after my death all my landed property with the buildings and erections thereon should be sold and the proceeds thereof together with my other monies shall be held by my Executor hereafter named for the following purposes after payment of all my debts funeral and testamentary expenses the sum of one hundred dollars for Masses for the repose of my soul to be paid when in what manner and to whom as my Executor shall decide
To my sister Bridget the sum of Thirty dollars a year for five years to be paid to her at such times and in such sums as my Executor may decide     I bequeath to my brother Daniel the land he is now occupying situate at St. Brendens and which I have already verbally given him.

Subject to the above bequests I desire that the rest residue and remainder of my Estate of every description be held by my Executor for the use of my wife Julia Turner during her life time or whilst she remains unmarried should she marry again whatever monies my Executor may hold belonging to my Estate are to be disposed of as follows To my nephew Thomas Turner son of Daniel Fifty dollars and the remainder in equal shares to the Roman Catholic Bishop for the time being of Saint John’s the Roman Catholic Bishop of Harbor Grace for the time being To Rev. Monsignor Veitch or the Roman Catholic Priest for the time being at Conception Harbor and to Rev G. S. Battcock or the Roman Catholic Priest for the time being Whitbourne. These bequests are conditioned on the legatees celebrating Masses for the repose of my Soul
After my wifes death should she die unmarried whatever moneys are in my Executors hands belonging to my Estate I wish desposed of in the above manner - all my goods and stock in trade at St. Brendens I leave to my wife for her sole and absolute use out of the proceeds of the sale of the St. Brendens landed property I direct that a headstone be erected to the memory of my father at St. Brenden’s an a sum of money for ten masses for the repose of his soul I desire also that my furniture be sold and the proceeds held by my executor for the purpose and in the manner heretofore provided for
And I appoint Daniel Joseph Greene of Saint John’s Solicitor Executor of this my last will - Dated at Saint John’s Newfoundland this 25^th day of May A.D. 1909    John Turner signed in our presence the words during her life time having been first erased and the words for five years first written in    Fannie O’Keefe     D.J. Greene
