Will of Eli Tuck
from the Newfoundland will books volume 12 page 177 probate year 1922

In re ELI TUCK.      DECEASED.

Know all men by these presents, That I, Eli Tuck, of St. John's, in the Dominion of Newfoundland, Excise Officer in His Majesty's Customs, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.

  • FIRST: I give and bequeath to my daughter, Alma Tuck, of St. John's, the total sum of the proceeds of my Life Insurance in the Canada Life Insurance Company.
  • SECOND: I give and bequeath to my daughter, Ida Isabell Currie, to my daughter Nellie Tuck, to my son, Harry L. Tuck, and to my daughter Alma Tuck, the money held by me in the Newfoundland Savings Bank. This to be divided between them in four equal parts of one Fourth to each.
  • THIRD: To my daughters, Nellie Tuck and Alma Tuck, I give and bequeath my House, Household Goods and Furniture, they to have joint and equal ownership of the same.
  • FOURTH: To my Grandson, Harry Gibson Currie, I give and bequeath my watch.
  • FIFTH: I give and devise my personal effects for the disposal of my children who shall be in St. John's at the time of my decease.
  • SIXTH: I appoint my daughter, Ida Isabell Currie, or the oldest of my children who shall be in St. John's at the time of my decease, to administer this my last Will and Testament.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF. I, the said Eli Tuck, set my hand and seal hereunto, this Twenty fourth day of January, in the year Anno Domini One Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighteen. ELI TUCK.
Signed, Sealed, Published and declared by the said Eli Tuck, as and for his last will and testament in present of us, who in his presence and in the presence of each other, and at his request have hereunto subscribed our name as witnesses. A. SOPER.    THOS. SOPER.

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
