Will of Roger Tierney, from Newfoundland will books volume 15 pages 144 & 145 probate year 1930

IN RE.               DECEASED


THIS is the LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Roger Tierney of Petty Harbour in the island of Newfoundland Domestic Prelate to His Holiness Pope Pius XI and Parish Priest of Petty Harbour aforesaid which I hereby declare shall affect only my estate in the Island of Newfoundland and shall not affect my real or personal estate in the Irish Free State which I have devised and bequeathed by another will of even date herewith such other will to take effect can currently with and independently hereof.
I revoke all former wills and codicils by me made with the exception of my will disposing of my real and personal property in the Irish Free State hereinbefore referred to.
I appoint whosoever shall be the Roman Catholic Archbishop of St John's at the time of my death and Reverend Edward Patrick Maher C.C. of Petty Harbour executors of this my will.
I direct my executors to pay my just debts my funeral and testamentary expenses and to erect a suitable monument to my memory.
It is my wish that my body be buried in the Priests Plot at Belvidere Cemetery at St John's.
I bequeath $1000. for low masses for the repose of my soul, of this sum I direct that $ 250. be given Mount Mellory Abbey Cappaquin, County Waterford, Ireland; $250 to Mount St Joseph Abbey, Rescrae, County Tipperary, Ireland; the remaining $500. at the discretion of my executors. I give and bequeath to my executors the sum of $1200 to be distributed as follows:-
(a) To the Petty Harbour Roman Catholic Altar Society $500.
(b) To the Goulds Roman Catholic Altar Society $500.
(c) To the Blackhead Roman Catholic Altar Society $200.
To my housekeeper Mary Hurley in consideration of her many years of faithful service I bequeath the sum of $ 2000.00.
I bequeath to the Most Reverend E.P. Roche Archbishop of St John's the sum $ 1000.00.
I bequeath all my books to my curate Father Edward P. maher.
I bequeath to the Reverend James Green Parish Priest of Witless Bay my astronomical and terrestrial telescopes and the wicker chair given me by him.
I bequeath my gramophone and records to the Convent of Littledale.
I give to my executors to hold in trust for my successor as Parish Priest of Petty Harbour and on his death or quitting the Parish to his successor the following:-
(a) my Pyxis stocks and gold chalice.
(b) all the furniture and effects of the Petty Harbour Roman Catholic Presbytery with the exception of bequests of such furniture and effects that are made elsewhere herein.
I direct my executors to sell my two slides carriages harness and rugs and all the contents of the stable to be belonging and to divide the proceeds of such sale equally between the Belviders and Mount Cashel Orphanages at St John's.
All the rest and residue of my estate in Newfoundland I give and bequeath in equal shares to the Roman Catholic convents in the Archdiocese of St John's. I request my executors to remind those institutions that the legacies they receive herein will tend towards charity and education. I further ask the religious in these convents to pray for the repose of my soul.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of April Anno Domini One thousand nine hundred and twenty nine.
