from Newfoundland will books volume 10 page 311 probate year 1915

In re
      JOHN SYME       deceased.

      30th December 1905.    In the name of God Amen.    Know all men by these presents that I John Syme Broker St. John’s Newfd land being of sound mind & desirous of leaving my affairs in good order in the event of my death do hereby leave and bequeath all my property of every kind & description Cash loads, shares, debts etc to my dear wife Elizabeth Mackeen Syme for the benefit of herself and the two children Archibald & Mary & for their proper upbringing & education.     after paying my funeral expenses & debts and if it is not done before my death I recommend that the farm property be sold and distributed in ten & one half shares one share each going to Mrs. W. P. Rogerson, Charley, Quint & Tom. Will’s share going towards paying off the indebtedness to my brother Campbell which was contracted to complete his medical studies & as security for which my brother holds my Life Insurance policy for £1000 stg & profits with the Scottish Union & provincial the other shares in the property belong to myself & by purchase from Frank & Graham-    In reference to the house & grounds of Summerlea Lizzie can sell or use it as she may think best    Witness my hand this 30th day of December 1905.     J.
