Last will and Testament of
Thomas Strapp of Harbor Grace N.D.
Gentleman deceased
This is the last will and Testament
of me Thomas Strapp of Harbor Grace in the Island of
Newfoundland. In the first place I direct that my just debts funeral
and testamentary expenses be paid out of any money or monies of which
I may die possessed of or be entitled to.
Second. I give devise and bequeath
to my nephews Thomas and Walter Strapp sons of my brother Patrick
Strapp of Harbor Main their heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever
all that land and houses goods chattels and effects that I am entitled
to from the estate of my late brother Stephen Strapp situate at Harbor
Main and also all lands, houses, goods, chattels and effects that I own
at Harbor Main under the will of my late father Patrick Strapp situate
at Harbor Main in equal parts share and share alike, but should any of
the above mentioned nephews Thomas and Walter
Strapp die without leaving
lawful issue I give his or their share to the survivor or survivors to
share and share alike. But my brother Patrick Strapp is
to have full power and authority over all the said above mentioned property
and lands hereby devised to use it as he wishes for his support during
his natural life.
Third. I give devise and bequeath to my Grand Nephews
John Joseph Murphy and Michael Patrick Murphy sons of my nephew John
Joseph Murphy of Harbor Grace their heirs executors, administrators and
assigns for ever all that dwelling house situate on Water Street Harbor
Grace and now unoccupied, but lately occupied by John Strathie as tenant
together with the land upon which the said house is built and thereto
belonging to said house which house and land was purchased by me from
the estate of my late brother Stephen Strapp. And also I give devise
and bequeath to my said Grand Nephews John Joseph Murphy and Michael
Patrick Murphy sons of my nephew John Joseph Murphy their heirs executors
administrators and assigns for ever. All of that dwelling house situate
on Water and Bannerman Streets Harbor Grace and now occupied by their
father John Joseph Murphy and all the land under and belonging to the
said house and also that store in rear of the said dwelling house situate
on Bannerman Street Harbor Grace and the land under and belonging to
said house, which store was purchased by me from the estate of my late
father Patrick Strapp and in the event of the death of my Grand nephews
the said John Joseph Murphy and Michael Patrick
Murphy I give and bequeath
all of the above mentioned houses, store and lands to the next issue
being a son of my Nephew John J Murphy, if no such issue then to his
father the said John J Murphy. And also my nephew the said John
J Murphy shall during the term of his natural life have permission to use as he
wishes and have full control of all houses store and lands situate in
Harbor Grace and thereby and hereby willed to his said sons John
Joseph Murphy and Michael Patrick Murphy by
me.
Fourth. I devise and bequeath and give to my grand nephews John
Joseph Murphy and Michael Patrick Murphy sons of my nephew John
Joseph Murphy of Harbor Grace their heirs executors administrators and assigns all
of the residue and remainder of my money or monies that I may die possessed
of or be entitled to and in the event of the death of my Grand nephews
the said John J. Murphy and Michael Patrick
Murphy I give devise and
bequeath all the said money or monies to the issue next being a son of
my nephew John Joseph Murphy and if no such issue then to their father
John Joseph Murphy. And also my nephew John
Joseph Murphy shall have
full power and authority to use draw and invest said money or monies
willed to my grand nephews the said John Joseph Murphy and Michael
Patrick Murphy for the support and education of the said Grand nephews John
Joseph Murphy and Michael Patrick Murphy, and in the event of the death of their
father the said John J. Murphy, the said Grand nephews mother Alice
Murphy wife of John Joseph Murphy shall have
full power and control of the said money or monies the same as their
father if he were living.
Fifth. I give and bequeath to my nephew John
Joseph Murphy of Harbor Grace all my books, papers furniture,
watch and chain, bed and bedding. Also the sum of forty dollars for masses
to be given to any priest or Bishop as he think proper.
Sixth.
I give and bequeath to each of my Executors hereinafter named the sum
of ten dollars to carry out this my last will and testament and I hereby
nominate and appoint Peter Hamilton of Carbonear and my nephew John
Joseph Murphy of Harbor Grace to be my Executors of this my last will and Testament.
And I hereby revoke all and other and former will or wills made by me
heretofore and declare this to be my last will and Testament. In witness
whereof I have hereunto my hand and seal subscribed and set this tenth
day of May A.D. Eighteen hundred and ninety five. (Sgd) Thomas

his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed
