Will of Emma Jane Stabb
from Newfoundland will books volume 11 pages 519 & 520 probate year 1920

In re Emma Jane Stabb       deceased

This is the last will and testament of me Emma Jane Stabb, of Saint John's Newfoundland, Gentlewoman.

  • First. I will devise and bequeath, unto my sister Isabella Fanny Norfolk, of Staffordshire, or if she be dead, unto her daughter Beatrice Page Jellicoe, the sum of two thousand dollars.
  • Second. I will devise and bequeath, unto my niece Bessie Sanderson of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, the sum of Ten thousand dollars.
  • Third. I will devise and bequeath, unto my niece Ellen Henrietta Knapp, the sum of Ten thousand dollars. To my niece May Danville Knapp the sum of Ten thousand dollars, and unto my niece Alice Marion Knapp, the sum of Twelve thousand five hundred dollars, if either one or two of the legatees, under the clause be dead, I desire that the sum bequeathed to deceased, be paid to the survivor, or survivors in equal proportions.
  • Fourth. I will devise and bequeath unto my niece Mary Domville [Sister Muriel] the sum of one thousand dollars.
  • Fifth. I will devise and bequeath unto my niece Beatrice Page Jellicoe, the sum of one thousand dollars.
  • Sixth. I will devise and bequeath, unto my great niece Vera Jellicoe the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Seventh. I will devise and bequeath unto my great niece Eileen Jellicoe the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Eighth. I will devise and bequeath, unto my great niece Rachel Knapp the sum of five hundred dollars, and to my great nephew, John Knapp, the sum of five hundred dollars [Children of Kempster Knapp of India].
  • Ninth. I will devise and bequeath unto my niece Nora Stabb the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, and unto my niece Madeleine Stabb the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, if either Nora Stabb or Madeleine Stabb be dead, I desire that the sum bequeathed to the deceased, under the clause be paid to the survivor.
  • Tenth. I will devise and bequeath unto my nephew Arthur Stabb the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Eleventh. I will devise and bequeath unto my nephew Charles Stabb, the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Twelfth. I will devise and bequeath, unto my great nephew William Ewen Stabb the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Thirteenth. I will devise and bequeath unto Daisy Gardner of Honiton(?) Devon the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Fourteenth. I will devise and bequeath unto Bertha A. Fox, of London, the sum of five hundred dollars.
  • Fifteenth. I will devise and bequeath unto John Charles Phillips of Saint John's Newfoundland, accountant the sum of nine hundred dollars.
  • Sixteenth. I will devise and bequeath unto Charles McKenzie Harvey, of Saint John's, Newfoundland provided always that he shall accept the appointment as executor, of this my last will and testament, and shall act as such Executor, the sum of two thousand dollars.
  • Seventeenth. As to the residue and remainder of my property, of what kind soever and wheresoever situate, and all monies, or securities for money that I may die possessed of, I desire that the whole of said residue and remainder be given to my nephew Ewen Chantoe(?) Stabb, or, if he be dead, unto his son William Ewen Stabb.
  • Eighteenth. I nominate and appoint my friends, Alexander John Harvey, and Charles McKenzie Harvey, of Saint John's, Newfoundland executors of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at London, England, this twenty-sixth day of April one thousand nine hundred and sixteen. Emma Jane Stabb.

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
