Last Will and Testament of
Patience Simmons of Kelligrews
Widow deceased.

      In the name of God, Amen,
I Patience Simmons wife of the late William Simmons of Kelligrews Newfoundland being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament
First I give and bequeath to Patience Hennessy wife of Azariah Hennessy that piece of cultivated land that my father the late Abram Dawe owned situate in Kelligrews and bounded as follows, north by main road, south by John Joy, East by the late John Snow's land and west by land owned by Abram LeDrew.
Second I give and bequeath to Amelia Bishop my daughter and my grandson Joseph Bishop that piece of marsh land in Kelligrews to be equally divided between them and bounded as follows. North by main road, south by James Bishops. West by land I am giving to Patience Hennessy and East by my own land.
Third I give and bequeath to my three daughers Mrs Elizabeth Ann Morgan, Mrs Mary Jane Scott and Mrs Amelia Bishop by the late John Snow that piece or parcel of land bounded as follows, north by main road, south by James Bishop, East by William Anthony and west by marsh land I have given to the said Amelia Bishop and Joseph Bishop.
Fourth I also give and bequeath to my three daughers before mentioned by the late John Snow that piece or parcel of land situate and being in Kelligrews and bounded as follows, north by main road, south by Charly Dawe, East by Charly Dawe and west by William Anthony's road.
Fifth I give and bequeath to Joseph Bishop my grandson that piece or parcel of land owned by my father the late Abram Dawe and bounded as follows north by Abram Dawe Jr. South by Isaac Ledrew, east by Abram Dawe Jr. And west by Isaac Ledrew.
Sixth I give and bequeath to Amelia Bishop my daughter my small kitchen garden bounded as follows north by Abram Dawe Jr. South by brook path, east by road leading to waterside and west by the piece of land I have given to my grandson Joseph Bishop
Seventh. I give and bequeath to the said Joseph Bishop my dwelling house, stable and half of my cellar and the land that the dwelling house and stable are on.
Eighth I give and bequeath to my three daughers, Elizabeth Ann Morgan Mary Jane Scott and Amelia Bishop the kitchen garden in front of my dwelling house to be equally divided between them bounded as follows. North by Abram Ledrew. South by my dwelling house, east by Abram Ledrew and west by waterside road.
Ninth. The cultivated land that my late husband William Simmons bequeathed to me is to be equally divided between the late Emmalaha Bishop's five sons.
Tenth I give and bequeath my feather bed to my daughter Elizabeth Ann Morgan my rocking chair I give to Patience Hennessy.- I give my iron bedstead to my granddaughter Lizzy Bishop,- the trunk in my bedroom I give to my daughter Mary Jane Scott.- I give my best shawl to my sister Mrs Hennessy- my cooking stove is to be left in the house.- My bedclothes and other articles Amelia Bishop is to divide equally between all my children
The potatoes in my cellar are to be sold and with the money, a suit of mourning for Edith Scott, Lizzie Bishop, Julia Bishop and Effie Bishop, also a pair of boots for Effie Bishop is to be bought and given them.- A headstone is to be erected to my husband William Simmons and myself.- I hope all my property will be equally divided according to this my will that there be no disturbance after my death.- Each one is to have a right of way to the land that I have given and bequeathed James Bishop owns half of my cellar and he is at all times to have a right of way to it, he is never by any means to be prevented from going to it -
I do hereby appoint Mr. Francis Frederick Furneaux School Teacher at Middle Bight to be sole executor for this my last will and Testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other forms Testament wills and bequests by me in anywise before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 11th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety nine. (Sgd) Patience her x mark Simmons (LS) Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Patience Simmons (having been first read over) as her last will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.       I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of Patience Simmons deceased
