Will of William Shaw
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 29-30 probate year 1909

In re
      William Shaw          deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me William Shaw of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland, Storekeeper, hereby revoking all former wills and Testaments by me at any time made.
First I give and bequeath to my son Ambrose, all that piece or parcel of land, together with the dwelling house and outhouses thereon. Situate on the west side of Shaw street. And bounded on the south by property of Browning, Davidson, and my son Edward, on the west by Elliot Estate, on the north by land of Hamlyn, and on the East by Shaw street aforesaid and property of my sons Edward and Herbert, subject nevertheless to the right of my wife Julia, to occupy the front rooms on the first and second flats of the said dwelling house, during her natural life or until she re-marries and subject to the provision that should my said son Ambrose die without issue the said property shall become the property of my said sons Herbert and Edward.
Second I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Julia all monies which may be on deposit in the Newfoundland Savings Bank at the time of my death and all loose monies or any monies that may be due to me subject to the payment of my just debts Funeral, and Testamentary expenses.
Third I give and bequeath to my said wife all my household furniture and effects and all the rest residue and remainder of the property of which I shall die possessed for and during her natural life or until she re-marries on the death or re-marriage of my said wife the same shall become the property of my said son Ambrose
Fourth I appoint Alexander Rooney of St. John’s Accountant executor hereto Dated at St. John’s aforesaid this second day of October A.D. 1909. William Shaw. Signed published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last will and Testament in our presence, who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other subscribe our names as witnesses hereto    Alexander Rooney     Chas H Hutchings
