Will of Thomas Ryan
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 229 to 231 probate year 1907

In re
      Thomas Ryan          deceased.

      Last will and Testament In the name of God. Amen. I Thomas Ryan of Kings Cove Bonavista Bay Newfoundland, Fisherman being of sound mind memory and understanding do hereby make this my Last Will and Testament In the first place I give and bequeath to my two Grand-daughters Agnes Ryan and Alice Ryan daughters of my deceased son William Ryan in equal shares all and singular my Dwelling House situate at Kings Cove Bonavista Bay and now occupied and rented by Mr. John G. Hart with all Gardens and Land thereunto belonging with all Stores and Erections thereon subject to the following conditions that is to say that for the term of three years (or longer if necessary) after my death the money received or earned as rent for said Dwelling House Gardens Land &c is to be retained and used by my Executors to pay any debts I may owe and for all needed and necessary repairs and up keeping of and to my said Dwelling House Stores Fences &c to keep same in tenantable condition and for my Funeral Expences and the sum of Fifty Dollars I direct to be spent for a Double Headstone to be erected in memory of my wife Ellen Ryan and of myself. I also direct that the sum of Twenty Dollars be paid to the Parish Priest of Kings Cove for the purpose of Masses for my wife Ellen Ryan and for myself the money for same and for the Headstone to be provided out of the Rent of said Dwelling House &c before mentioned.

I give and bequeath to my two Grandsons James Lewis Ryan and Thomas Ryan Sons of my deceased son William Ryan in equal parts all my Waterside Property with store thereon situate at Kings Cove aforesaid also contents of said store at my death I also give and bequeath to my said Grandsons my Garden on the Hill Half to each I also give and bequeath to my said Grandsons James Lewis Ryan and Thomas Ryan my Garden situate on the Trinity Road one half to each. I give and bequeath to my Grand daughter Alice Ryan my Bed and Bedding and all and any other property I die possessed of I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Agnes Ryan and I hereby nominate and appoint Messrs John G. Hart and Edward Long of Kings Cove Executors of this my Last will and Testament and I request them to furnish my Daughter in Law Ellen Ryan as Guardian for Agnes Ryan and Alice Ryan an annual account as to how Rents of said Dwelling House is disposed of.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand as marksman at Kings Cove Bonavista Bay Newfoundland on the Fifth day of April in the Year of Our Lord one Thousand nine hundred and Four     Thomas his X mark Ryan (LS) Signed by the said Thomas Ryan the Testator by mark in our presence after being clearly and distinctly read over and explained who in is presence and in the presence of each other at the same time subscribe our names as witnesses Edward Long Mail Courier John Aylward Fisherman.

I Thomas Ryan do hereby make the following Codicil to this my last will and testament viz: I give and bequeath to my four Grandchildren    James Lewis Ryan, Thomas Ryan Agnes Ryan and Alice Ryan in equal shares all Houses Lands and effects I possess at my death revoking the previous disposal of same and I desire all other provisions of my will to be carried out    Thomas his X mark Ryan Signed by the said Thomas Ryan the Testator by mark in our presence this Codicil being clearly and distinctly read over and explained who in his presence and in the presence of each other at the same time subscribe our names as witnesses on the seventeenth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and six    Edward Long Mail Courier John Aylward. Fisherman
