In re
     Revd. John Ryan deceased.

In the name of God Amen Anno Domini 1871 Jan 24^th. I John Ryan P.P. of St. Mary’s in the western district of the Island of Newfoundland doth hereby make this my last will & testament declaring all other wills said to be made by me null & voide in the following & concice manner, viz I give & bequeath to the Presentation Convent at St. Mary’s the sum of one thousand pounds cur. on the condition only that my niece Brigit Long in religion Sister Mary Joseph Magdalen joins the said community but should B.L. alias M.J. Magdalen, not become a member of the aforesaid Order she B.L. is to receive the sum of seven hundred pounds st. out of the one thousand cury to be appropriated as she may deem fit

I further more give & bequeath to to the orphans at St. Michaels 150 cur together with my horse & carriage to be kept & not sold    for St. Patricks Church St. John’s 200£ cur for a statue of the B.V.M.     For Masses for the repose of my soul to the priests of the Diocese 100-     For the completion of the chapel in the Parish as also for the erection of new ones 150 cur.     For the erection of some monument to my memory 150- £ For the deserving poor of the parish 100. For Mrs. Ronan during her life yearly 10. For my sister Mrs. L. Long for the education of her children 150. For my niece Mrs. P. Kennedy for the education of her children 200 stg. For my nephew John Ryan 100. The residue of my money house furniture stock goods & chattels to be disposed of any way bishop may deem fit for the promotion of religion I hereby appoint the Most Revd Dr. Power & J. I. Little as executors to this my last will.
