In re JAMES D. RYAN. DECEASED.
This is the last Will and Testament of me James D. Ryan of Saint John’s
Merchant.
- I give and bequeath to my brother the Reverend Edmund Ryan,
County Tipperary, Ireland, the sum of one thousand pounds sterling:
- To
the Mount Cashel Industrial School at Saint John’s the sum of one
thousand dollars and also all my lands on Robinson’s Hill Saint
John’s:
- To the Belvidere Orphanage Saint John’s
the sum of one thousand dollars:
- To the St. Vincent
de Paul Society saint John’s the sum of five hundred dollars:
- To
the Ladies’ Society of St. Vincent de Paul the sum of five hundred
dollars:
- To the Dorcas Society Saint John’s
the sum of five hundred dollars:
- To the Church of
England Orphanage Saint John’s the sum of five hundred dollars:
- To
the Methodist Orphanage Saint John’s the sum of two hundred and
fifty dollars:
- To my niece Mary J. Ryan of Worcester
Massachusetts daughter of my late brohter John Ryan the sum
of five thousand dollars:
- To my nephews Thomas F. Ryan and James
J. Ryan of Worcester aforesaid the sum of one thousand dollars
each: and to my nephews Joseph Davin and Ambrose
Davin the sum of one
thousand dollars each:
- To the Bishop of Harbour Grace for
general Church purposes the sum of five hundred dollars:
- To
the Belvidere Cemetery Committee Saint John’s for the general purposes
of the cemetery the sum of one hundred dollars:
- To
the Archbishop, saint John’s, to be expended in Masses for the
repose of my Soul and those of my relatives and friends the sum of five
hundred dollars:
- To the Archbishop, saint John’s,
towards the repairs to the Roman catholic Cathedral and other Church
Buildings the sum of five thousand dollars:
- To Richard
Clancey of Saint John’s Grocer (now in my employment) the sum of
one thousand dollars:
- To Thomas Morris of the same
place Accountant (now in my employment) the sum of one thousand
dollars and to Thomas Earle of saint John’s aforesaid (now in my employment)
the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars.
- To
Mary Woolock of Brooklyn N.Y. Five hundred dollars.
- ll the rest residue and remainder of my moneys property and
estate of every description I give devise and bequeath as follows:
To my wife Anna M. Ryan two thirds thereof absolutely and to
my daughter Mary Ryan one third thereof absolutely.
- appoint my said wife executrix of this my will

aforesaid this 9th day of April Anno Domini One thousand nine

PUBLISHED AND DECLARED by the said testator as and for his
last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request
in his presence and in the presence of each other (all present at
the same time) have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. (the
words “To
Mary Woolock of Brooklyn N.Y. Five hundred dollars” having just
been added to Par. I hereof)
