Last will and Testament
of John Rowsell Senior
of Ward's Harbor Fisherman Deceased

Little Bay Newfoundland In the name of God Amen. I John Rowsell Senior of Ward's Harbour in the Northern District of Twillingate and Fogo, being in perfect health of body and of sound mind and memory, do now at this time make my last will and Testament That is to say concerning my worldly estate. I leave to my son Jasper Rowsell, all my landed property, large boat flakes, nets, dwelling house and all stores. Land on which I now live consisting of about four acres, also the land and property at the bottom of the Harbour granted to me this year, measured for me by Thomas Peyton in August 1870 containing 6 acres 1 rood and 3 perches, also all my cattle and all my household furniture all that I have now in my possession to have and to hold I do now leave to him my son Jasper Rowsell. The said land and all property is free from any encumbrance, and I do now ratify and confirm this to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal at Little Bay in the District aforesaid this first day of September A.D. 1885. John Rowsell (L.S.) Witness to this signature John C. Duder W. J. Redden. W. J. Reddin merchant of the firm of Reddin Brothers of Little Bay maketh oath and saith that he was present and saw John Rowsell Senr. of Ward's Harbor sign his name to the within written will and Testament which was read over and fully understood by the said John Rowsell on the day of this date thereof W. J. Reddin Sworn before me at Little Bay this 1st day of September A.D. 1885. John C. Duder Comm. S.C. This codicil supplement or addition to the within written will confirmed and ratified by John Rowsell senr. of Ward's Harbour is merely to prove that Thomas Rowsell son of the said John Rowsell Senior, as agreed by the within letter between the said Thomas Rowsell and Jasper Rowsell and their father the said John Rowsell Senr. That is to say that Thomas Rowsell is to have and to hold of this land at the bottom of Ward's Harbour measured by Thomas Peyton in the year of our Lord 1870 a piece of said land measuring one hundred and forty five yards in length and thirty seven yards in breadth. Certified and agreed by the said John Rowsell and signed on within letter by him. These parties having agreed to the same before me J. C. Duder Sept 15/1885
I certify the foregoing a correct copy of the will of John Rowsell.
