Will of Martin Sheppard Rowe Martin S. Rowe - 1897 (date written) Last Will and Testament of Martin S. Rowe of Heart’s Content - laborer deceased This is to certify that I, Martin Sheppard Rowe of
Heart’s Content, Newfoundland being of sound and disposing mind & memory
do make this my last will and testament. I hereby bequeath my house
to my wife Charlotte Rowe and my son, John
S. Rowe, the said Charlotte Rowe to
hold possession of that part of the house in which I live during her
natural life and after her decease my son John S. Rowe is
to have possession & own all the house by paying my grandson Ernest
Rowe the sum of fifty dolllars ($50.00) but if
my grandson Ernest
Rowe should not be living after decease of my wife Charlotte
Rowe then my son John S. Rowe is
to own the house without payment of any fee. I bequeath my bed and
watch to my grandson Ernest Rowe and my
sewing machine to my granddaughter Mary Jane Rowe and
the remaining effects in the house after decease of my wife shall be
equally divided between my two sons Eliol Rowe and
John
S. Rowe. My land is to be equally divided between
my wife Charlotte
Rowe and my two sons Eliol Rowe and John
S. Rowe, and after the decease of my wife the said
land is to be equally divided between my two sons Eliol
Rowe and John
S. Rowe. The money I have in Savings Bank amounting
at present to the sum of three hundred and nineteen dollars & twenty
six cents ($319.26) shall be used as follows. The Bank Book to be in
possession of my son John S. Rowe who
shall with the signatures of the undersigned witnesses draw therefrom
yearly for the support of my wife the sum of twenty five dollars which
she shall receive, and should there be any money remaining in the bank
after decease of my wife it shall be equally divided between my two
sons Eliol Rowe and John
S. Rowe. In witness whereof I have hereto set my
