Will of John Roper
from Newfoundland will books volume 12 page 232 probate year 1922

In re

This is the last Will and Testament of me, John Roper of Bonavista in the District of Bonavista in the Dominion of Newfoundland, Stipendiary Magistrate. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Ann Roper, all & everything that I may be possessed of at the time of my death, with the request that she give to my son Wm. H. Roper the old Silver Fish Splice given me by my mother, and my Watch & Chain to my younger son John S. Roper. I hereby appoint my said wife Ann Roper to be the sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament.
As witness my hand at Bonavista aforesaid, this Twelfth day of May in the year of Our Lord One thousand nine hundred and twenty. JOHN ROPER.

William F. Lloyd
Registrar of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland

(Listed in the Margin next to this will the following)
Fiat July 14/22
Justice Johnson
Probate granted
to Annie Roper
July 15/22
Estate sworn
at $2390.00

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
