Will of Richard Rodway
from Newfoundland will books volume 8 pages 251-252 probate year 1907

In re
      Richard Rodway          deceased.

      This is the Last Will of me Richard Rodway of Baine Harbour Placentia Bay Newfoundland.    I give and bequeath to my son Amos Rodway the part of my Dwelling House now occupied by him, and upon his death to his wife Elizabeth. Upon her death or in the event of her marrying again I give and bequeath the same to my grandson John Richard Rodway.
I give and bequeath the part of my dwelling house now occupied by myself and my wife to my wife for life and upon her death to my son Wilson. No part of the dwelling house is to be disposed of to anyone outside the Rodway family.
I bequeath the sum of Fifty Dollars to the clergyman in charge of the mission at Harbour Buffett to be applied as he shall judge best for the benefit of the Church of England at Baine Harbor.
I bequeath the sum of Fifty Dollars to my grandson, John Richard Rodway.
I desire that a headstone be erected to my memory in the graveyard at Baine Harbor and the cost thereof be paid by my executor out of my estate.
I bequeath to my six sons John Rodway, Albert Rodway, Wilson Rodway, Amos Rodway, Archelaus Rodway, Richard England Rodway and my three daughters Amy Reeves, Julia Dicks and Selina Williams whatever money may be in the Savings Bank, St. John’s in my name at the time of my decease to be equally divided among my said sons and daughters after deducting the above legacies and paying all my lawful debts and funeral expenses. I desire my children to provide all things necessary for their mother’s comfort during the remainder of her life.
I appoint the Reverend John Hewitt clergyman of the Church of England resident in Burin executor of this my last will and Testament     In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four    Richard his X mark Rodway. Signed by the said Richard Rodway (by affixing his mark) as his last will in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses, the above having been first read to and approved by the said testator James W Smith     J. R. Shears Teacher.
