Last Will and Testament of Patrick James Roche,
Storekeeper, Retired - St. John's

(Archbishop Roche's Uncle)

In the Name of God, Amen

This is the Last Will and Testament of me, Patrick James Roche of St. John's, Newfoundland, storekeeper retired, and I revoke all the previous wills and codicils by me made and I appoint my wife executrix of this my will.

  1. I give and bequeath to my wife or executrix as trustee my Barnes Road property in trust for my said son during his life and after his death if he has children to them for his children in equal shares. If there be no such children living at the death of my son then the said Barnes Road property is to be transferred to the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of St. John's in trust for Belvedere Orphanage.
  2. I give my King's Road property to His Grace Archbishop Roche for his use during his life and after his death to be held in trust for Mount Cashel Orphanage.
  3. I give all the rest of my property real and personal to my wife, and this includes Government Bonds and money in the Eastern Trust Company.

I wish that His Grace would say Masses for my soul in consideration of my bequest of the King's Road property to him.

Note: The Petition to the Supreme Court of Newfoundland or one of the Honourable Judges thereof by Solicitor W.J. Browne on behalf of Joanna Roche was dated 18 August 1924. It valued the Estate at $5820.00 and states that Patrick J. Roche died on or about 16 July 1924 survived by his wife and son John, no other next of kin.
