      James Ridout          deceased.

      Will and Testament of James Ridout of Seal Cove, Basse Terre shore, Newfoundland I, James Ridout, of seal Cove, Basse Terre shore, Newfoundland, being of sound mind and memory, do make and memorydo make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:

1. It is my will that my funeral expences and Headstone be first paid

2. I give devise and bequeath to my son Thomas Ridout all my lands, houses stores and all other property of whatever kind that is at or situated at Pass Island also the sum of sixty Dollars.

3 I give and bequeath the following sums as follows viz:

  • to my son Robert the sum of four hundred and eighty dollars;
  • to my daughter in law Esther Ridout, wife of my son Robert, Four hundred dollars;
  • to my daughter Martha, wife of Simeon Loveless, four hundred and eighty dollars;
  • to my son James One hundred and sixty dollars,
  • to my daughter Mary, wife of George Loveless, four hundred dollars;
  • to my grand-child Emma Forsey wife of Charles Forsey, Twenty dollars
  • to my grand-child Morgan Ridout Twenty dollars;
  • to my son-in-law John Loveless sixty dollars;
  • the Balance of Cash if any is to be equally divided between all my grandchildren.

4 I hereby revoke all former or other wills by me at any time made.

5 I nominate and appoint my son Robert Ridout executor of this my will and should he die meantime my son-in-law Simeon Loveless is to be the executor.

6 I hereby certify this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of May A.D. 1900    James his x mark Rideout. Signed by the said Testator James Ridout and acknowledged by him to be his last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time, and subscribed by us in the presence of the said testator and of each other. And we each of us certify that the said testator made his mark to his name in our presence and that previous to his doing so the said will was read over to him and that he understood it perfectly    Drucilla Preston S.A.     Charles Forsey    Thomas Bungy.

January 30th 1908    I James Rideout of Seal Cove do Desier that the mony wich is on my will in my Sun Thomas name after my death when Sheared up I desire That it Shall Bee Given to Robert my Suns three Boys    Simeons Rideout James Rideout John Wesley Rideout it is By my Request too Bee Sheared up Betwen the three of them    James Rideout his mark x witness John Made is mark x witness Charles Forsey.
