In re
Apollos Ridout deceased.
In the name of God Amen. I Apollos
Ridout, of Long Pond, South Shore Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland,
Fisherman and Farmer, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind
and memory do make and ordain this my last will and Testament.
First
after my death all the following that I possess, viz, Dwelling House, goods,
and chattels, cultivated and uncultivated land, farming Implements, horse,
dray cart, carriage harness, Fishing Room is to be divided into two parts
between my wife and my son Edward each to have an equal share of the above.
Second
My Fishing Gear, viz, boats Seines, nets, rods, grapnels, I give to my
son Edward, but my wife is to have an equal share of Salmon and caplin
caught by the nets.
Third I give my wife three head of cattle
my son Edward has two head of cattle of his own, I give also to my wife
three sheep.
Fourth all that I have given and bequeathed to my
wife she is to have sole control over as long as she lives and remain in
my name. After her death or if she should marry, my son George is to take
possession of what I have given and bequeathed to his mother - My son George is to receive his support off of what I have given to his mother.
Fifth
if any of my unmarried daughters should through sickness or old age require
a home they are to live on the place and receive their support from the
land - and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every
other former Testaments, wills and Bequests by me in anywise before named
willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this, and no other to be
my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this 2nd day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and ninety eight. - Apollos his X mark Ridout Signed, Sealed
Published Pronounced and declared by the said Apollos Ridout as his last
will and Testament in the presence of us (having been first read over)
who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed
our names as witnesses. Francis Frederick Furneaux. Commission of Supreme
