Last Will of
Thomas Rideout of Rose Blanche
Gentleman, deceased.
Know all men by these presents that I Thomas
Rideout of Rose Blanche in the district of Burgeo and LaPoile, Newfoundland,
Gentleman, being in good health, and of sound and disposing mind and memory
do make and publish this my last will and Testament.
First. I hereby
constitute and appoint Richard Furneaux Collector of Customs of Rose Blanche,
to be sole executor of this my last will, directing my said executor to pay
all my just and legal debts, and funeral expenses and to carry out the instructions
hereafter given.
Second. After the payment of my said debts and funeral
expenses, I give in trust to Richard Furneaux my said executor for my daughter
Sarah Garcin, the sum of Two thousand dollars, which amount is to be placed
in some Bank in Newfoundland and not to be drawn from the said bank until the
death of my said daughter Sarah Garcin, unless my said executor may know it
to be necessary to provide means for her present comfort and health. And whatever
amount be remaining at her death to be equally divided between her children
then living.
For the children of my late daughter Dinah Coffin the
sum of Two thousand dollars, to be equally divided between those then living.
To
my daughter Alice Furneaux I give the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, if living,
if not, the said amount to be equally divided between her children then living.
The
balance of the money I have in the banks together with the amount I have in
my safe to be equally divided between my said daughter Sarah Garcin and to
be added to the aforesaid amount, and to be disposed as the aforesaid amount
-. The children of my late said daughter Dinah Coffin then living, and my said
daughter Alice Furneaux if dead to her children then living and to my son Job
Rideout and my son James Rideout which amounts are to be paid to each of the
aforesaid as soon after my decease but within one year, as conveniently may
be done.
Third. The disposal of my estate at Harbor LeCou in the
District aforesaid (if not disposed of before my death) to be sold to the best
advantage by my said executor unless the said estate should be required at
any time by either of my sons Job or James to do a mercantile business thereon,
if not required or not occupied by my said sons for the purpose mentioned then
to be disposed of as aforesaid and the amount of purchase money be equally
divided between my said children or their representatives.
In testimony
whereof I hereunto set my hand, and publish and declare this to be my last
will and testament in the presence of the witnesses named below, this eighth
day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and two -
Thomas his x mark Rideout (LS) Signed sealed published and
declared by the said Thomas Rideout as for his last will and
testament in the presence of us, who in the presence of each other, and at
his request did see the said Thomas
Rideout put his mark to the above will and have subscribed our names
as witnesses hereto - John Buckland. James LeMoine.
