Will of William Reed

Last Will and Testament of
William Reed of Hants Harbor, Trinity Bay
Fisherman deceased.

      In the name of God Amen I William Reed of Hant's Harbor Newfoundland Fisherman being in health of body and of perfect mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament: That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I commend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors: nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First. I give and bequeath to my three sons Charles Reed, Richard Reed, and George Reed my fishing room and land adjoining thereto. Also that plot of land known as the Mead Garden to be divided equally among them and to their heirs forever. But the houses of the said Richard Reed and George Reed to be their own private property while they are standing on said land. Also I give to my daughter Mary Gulliford my coffee strainer (Luta) Also I give to my daughter Jane Green my work box. Also I give to my daughter Elizabeth Miller my wooden snuff box and what it contains. Also I give to my daughter Christianna Pelly my tin match box and what it contains. Also I give to my son George Reeds heir my fowling piece. I likewise constitute make and ordain Richard Pelly and Thomas Pelly sole executors of this my last will and Testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies and executors by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Fourteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five (sgd) William his x mark Reed (LS) Signed Sealed and declared by the said William Reed as his last will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. (Sgd) Richard his x mark Pelly. (Sgd) Thomas his x mark Pelly. (Sgd) Richard H. Parsons.
