Last will and Testament of
Robert Purchase of Lamaline S.D.
Farmer deceased
In the name of God Amen. I Robert
Purchase of Lamaline in the Southern District of Newfoundland
farmer do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner
and form following to wit:
First. It is my will that all my just debts
and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied out of my Estate as soon
as conveniently can be after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my
beloved sister Edith Purchase the sum of three hundred dollars in cash.
I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Francis James Rock Smith the sum
of four dollars in aid of the “New Parsonage” I give and
bequeath unto Harriet Purchase, Richard Purchase Thomas Purchase and
George Purchase children of my brother Albert
Purchase the balance of
all monies or securities for money that may belong to me at the time
of my death said moneys to be invested by my Executor hereinafter named
until said children become of age or are in need of money, they the said
Harriet Purchase Richard Purchase, Thomas Purchase and George
Purchase are to receive from my Executor aforesaid the yearly
interest accruing upon said monies in equal proportions. And in the event
of any of the said children dying before they attain their majority or
before they have been paid their proportion as aforesaid then the balance
remaining is to be divided between those of the four who may be surviving
I give devise and bequeath unto my nephew Thomas Purchase son of my brother
Albert Purchase my bed and bedding also half of the house at present
occupied by my brother Albert Purchase. I give devise and bequeath unto
my beloved brother Albert Purchase all my right title and interest in
and to all landed property, cattle, Houses outhouses, waterside premises
and all other property that may belong to me at the time of my death.
And lastly I constitute and appoint my nephew Cyrus C. Pitman as the
Executor of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have
hereunto my hand and seal subscribed and set at Lamaline aforesaid this
seventh day of January Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and ninety five.
(Sgd) Robert his X mark Purchase (LS) Signed Sealed and declared by the
Testator to be his last will and Testament in presence of us (sgd) C.
C. Pitman (sgd) F. James R. Smith.
I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament
of Robert Purchase deceased
