Will of Michael Power
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 59-60 probate year 1893

Last Will and Testament of
Michael Power of St. John's
Licensed Publican deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me Michael Power of St. John's Publican and General Grocer - I give devise and bequeath to my son Mogue Power Two thousand dollars to build and erect the houses and buildings at the place 42 Cochrane Street and Gower Street St. John's as they stood before the fire of July 8th 1892. To my son Mogue Power I give the house and buildings now in course of erection in Cochrane Street and the furniture and fittings saved from the fire above mentioned.

To my daughters Mrs. Mary Henessy and Mrs Margaret Donnelly I give and bequeath the house about to be erected in Gower Street adjoining my son Mogues house share and share alike. To Mrs. Mary Henessy and Mrs Margaret Donnelly above mentioned I give and bequeath two hundred dollars each.

My son Mogue Power and my daughters Mrs Mary Henessy and Mrs Margaret Donnelly in consideration of this bequest shall have four masses each celebrated every year for ever for the repose of my soul and for the repose of the souls of my parents Mogue and Margaret Power and my wife Margaret Power and my son James Power.

My son Mogue Power and my daughters Mrs Mary Henessy and Mrs Margaret Donnelly must not sell the land at Torbay except to each other or with the consent of all three.

In the event of my son Mogue Power's death I give and bequeath to his wife Anne Power what I have herein bequeathed to my son Mogue Power as long as she remains single, should she remarry the property goes to my son Mogues children share and share alike.

I desire that the houses in St. John's be insured for their value. My son Mogue Power will have me respectably interred and immediately after my death will have five masses celebrated for the repose of my soul. I appoint my son Mogue Power executor to this my last will and Testament, and after payment of the bequests herein mentioned I give and bequeath to my son Mogue Power all monies and debts due me in any and every way. (Sgd) Michael his X mark Power 17th Nov. 1892. Signed Published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last will and Testament in our presence who in his presence and in presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the due execution of the same. The same having been fully read over and explained to the testator as signing (sgd) M. J. Clarke _P.P. (Sgd) James Power. (Sgd) James Ryan. Torbay 17th Nov 1892.

Codicil

To this my last will and Testament I add this codicil. That on the day of my interment or within one month of my death my son Mogue Power will have celebrated in the Parish Church of Torbay a solemn high mass and office for the repose of my soul. (Sgd) Michael his X mark Power. Signed by us as witnesses in presence of Testator and in each others presence the same having been read over and explained. Witnessed (sgd) M. J. Clarke P.P. (Sgd) James Ryan (Sgd) Patrick his X mark Power. November 18th 1892.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament and Codicil of Michael Power deceased
