Will of Michael Power
from Newfoundland will books volume 2 page 198 probate year 1856

In re
     Michael Power      deceased.

This is my last will and testament.     1st After paying my lawful debts I bequeath all my property and effects of every nature & kind in manner following that is to say, one half to my son Charles for his sole use and benefit and after his death for the use of his children the other half to my wife during her lifetime and after her decease twenty pounds thereof to be paid to my brother Nicholas and the the sum of fifty pounds for the R.C. Cathedral & Convents and the remainder for charitable purposes my executors paying annually thereout my subscription to the Benevolent Irish Society of St. John's
As witness my hand this 3 June 1851 I hereby appoint Rev. K. Walsh and P. F. Little my executors.
Michael his X mark Power.
Witness having been first read over to Mr. Power before he signed the same, John Little.

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.
