Will of John Power

Last Will and Testament of
John Power of St. John's Carpenter deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me John Power of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland Joiner, being of sound mind memory and understanding do this twenty sixth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner following that is to say I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Power after my death for and during her life time to have and enjoy all and singular the dwelling house garden and premises which we now occupy situate on the North Side of Signal Hill Road No 39 situate and being in St. John's aforesaid in the Island aforesaid to have and to hold to my said wife the said premises aforesaid during her life time Also after my death I give and bequeath to my said wife Mary the sum of one hundred and ten pounds for her sole use and benefit And after my said wife's death I give the said dwelling house garden and premises to my children Patrick Power, John Power, Catherine Buckley, and Alice French their heirs and assigns for ever
Also I give and bequeath to the Reverend Father Forrester the reverend John Scott and the Reverend Father Ryan the sum of four pounds each for masses to be said for the repose of the souls of myself and my deceased wife Alice. I also allow to my said executor hereinafter mentioned the sum of seven pounds for my funeral expenses and also fifteen shillings for expenses of digging my grave and sodding the same.

And after my death all the rest and residue of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind and quality the same may be and not hereinbefore giving and disposed of I do give and bequeath unto the said Patrick Power, John Power, Catherine Buckley, and Alice French their and each of their heirs and assigns share and share alike to and for their own use and benefit absolutely. And I do hereby constitute and appoint John J. Carew sole executor to this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written (sgd) John Power (LS) Signed Sealed and declared by the said Testator as for his last will and testament in our presence who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.
