Last Will and Testament of
Henry Pope of St. John's
Cabinet Maker deceased.

      In the name of God Amen. This is the last will and Testament of me Henry Pope of St. John's Cabinet Maker. First I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Pope all my property house goods monies and effects to have and to hold the same for and during her life time and after her death said property to be divided as follows. That is to say. The dwelling house situated on Buchanan Street in the town of St. John's together with the land I will as follows. To my two daughters Fannie and Queen. Fanny to have the upstairs portion and Queen the downstairs the yard in rear of said dwelling house to be divided between them as follows the nearest half to the house to go with the downstairs portion of said house the remaining half to the upstairs. The work shop and tools therein, the dwelling house situate north side of Georges St. the dwelling house No 109 south side of Georges Street, and the Dwelling house situate on the south side of Georges Street and No 99 to go to and be the property of my three sons. Thomas, William and Henry respectively, provided my three sons work together and carry on the business and trade which they now work at with me, my said sons living in unity and obedience to their mother, otherwise my said wife may dispossess them or any of my said sons who may violate the above conditions of these bequests.
It is also my will and desire that my said sons will from and out of the trade and business contribute and pay to my said daughter Queen yearly and until she attains the age of twenty one a sum sufficient for her support, and give my daughter Fannie a home if she requires it. It is also my will and desire that should either of my said daughters predecease the other then and in such case the surviving one is to have the share of the one deceased. It is also my will and desire that this should apply to the bequests to my said sons, if either predecease the other then the share of him so dying will go to the surviving ones It is also my will and desire that should my wife at any time after my decease again get married, then and in such case my executor shall see that each of my said children will receive their share of my said property as I have herein set forth.
Lastly I hereby appoint and nominate Lawrence Parker Merchant to be executor of this my last will and Testament and I hereby revoke all other wills made by me. In witness whereof I have hereunto my hand subscribed and set at St. John's this 5th day of October A.D. 1893 (sgd) Henry his x mark Pope. Signed by said Testator by affixing his mark as and for his last will and Testament in our presence, who in his presence at his request and in presence of each other have hereunto our hand subscribed and set as witnesses the same having been read over and explained.
