Last Will and Testament of
Samuel Pike late of Clowns Cove
Fisherman deceased.
In the name of God. Amen. I Samuel
Pike of
Clowns Cove being of sound mind and memory but weak in body and confined to
my bed by severe illness do make this my last will and testament, I bequeath
my soul to God hoping for the forgiveness of my manifold sins through the atonement
of Jesus Christ and bequeath my body to the earth to be decently buried.
Secondly
I give and bequeath to Francis Pike my wife while she remains a widow to Charles
Pike and Samuel Pike my sons the dwelling house I now occupy. I bequeath to
my son Francis Pike half the garden behind the house, the remainder of the
land to be equally divided among my younger children viz: Francis, Charles,
Samuel, Thomas, Mark, George and Alfred
I bequeath my fishing room
and craft at Cat Harbor to all my sons provided they go there and prosecute
the fishery together, and if they do not go there that is those who are old
enough, they are to have no part of it. My son Francis is to remain in the
dwelling house until his own house is finished. I bequeath any money I may
die possessed of to my wife Frances Pike for the support of herself while she
remains a widow, and for the support of her children, the children begotten
by me.
I hereby appoint Mr Francis Pike my brother and Mr.
Thomas Newell my Executors. Samuel Pike ---- Signed sealed and delivered as the last
will and testament of Samuel Pike in the presence of us this 18 day of November
1844 — T. Newell. Edward Pike. Francis Pike
