PREROGATIVE COURT OF CANTERBURY

THE WILL OF JOHN WEBBER
TWILINGATE - 1764

 

In the Name of God Amen. I JOHN WEBBER late of and borne in the ISLAND OF JERSEY in the County of SOUTHAMPTON but now of WEEK In the Parish of CHRISTCHURCH TWINSHAM? In the County aforesaid NEWFOUNDLAND PLANTER, Batchelor, do make this my last Will and Testament as followeth. Ffirst recommending my Soul to Almighty God hoping to have Remission of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter named. I give and bequeath unto JOHN the son of RICHARD COTTLE late of EUCKSON? In the said parish of CHRISTCHURCH Newfoundlandman deceased all that my money or one half part of the Room or plantation situate and being in the HARBOUR of TWILINGATE in Newfoundland aforesaid in America now in the Tenure of JAMES COTTLE brother of the said JOHN COTTLE herein mentioned and to whom the other half part or Moeity? Of Right belong together with the one half part of all the Salt Houses Stages Shallops? Skifts ? Flatts Netts household Goods and all and every other thing utensil whatsoever belonging or appertaining to the said Room all the rest and residue of my Goods and Chattels Rights and Credits Moneys and securities for Money Bills of Exchange the ? proceeds thereof whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto JAMES COTTLE SENIOR of WEEK In the Parish of Christchurch aforesaid late Newfoundland Planter and I do hereby nominate and appoint the said JAMES COTTLE the Elder whole and sole executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking all former will or wills heretofore by me made and I do ? my said Executor to pay all my just debts and ffuneral expenses In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of April 1764. JOHN WEBBER his mark.

Signed sealed and delivered published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presents of us who subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto in the presence of us and at the Request of the said Testator LYDIA GROVES? Her mark ELIZ PET? Her Marke. CHAS BULLOCK.

This will was proved at London the fourteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty four before the Right Worshipful George Day Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oat of JAMES COTTLE the Elder the sole Executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattles and Credits of the Deceased he having been first sworn by Commission only to administer.
