PREROGATIVE COURT OF CANTERBURY
THE WILL OF RICHARD WATTS
BEAR COVE - 1831
In the Name of God Amen. I RICHARD WATTS formerly of FFORTEAU BAY in the Coast of LABRADOR but now of BEAR COVE in the Island of Newfoundland being in weak bodily health but of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament and do hereby constitute and appoint JOSEPH BIRD of STURMINSTER NEWTON CASTLE in the County of DORSET, England, Merchant my sole and lawful executor of the same and to that effect I do hereby grant and bequeath unto the said JOSEPH BIRD all my property both real and personal I may die possessed of to have and to hold for the following purposes that is to say after he has collected all my debts that may be due to me and has paid all debts that I may owe and has realized all my property I do hereby direct and devise the said JOSEPH BIRD to pay over the whole of my remaining property unto my truly and well beloved sister MARY GOULD otherwise DUMAN/DUNCAN(?) wife of JOHN GOULD/otherwise DUMAN/DUNCAN(?) of BEAR COVE aforesaid I have unto my sister MARY GOULD/ other DUMAN/DUNCAN(?) aforesaid whatsoever shares I may have in any sealing post codfish or salmon ffish likewise all my private ? and ? in the true and solemn testimony of this being my last will and testament I do hereby affix my hand and seal in BEAR COVE this twentieth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one. Signed sealed and delivered by the said RICHARD WATTS ? his last will and testament in the presence of THOS DICKETS RICHARD GILLYS x his mark.
Proved at London 24th January 1838 before the Judge by the oat of JOSEPH BIRD the sole executor to whom admon was granted having first sworn ?
