Will of James O’Neil
from Newfoundland will books volume 10 page 365 probate year 1916

In re
      JAMES O’NEIL       deceased.

      This is the last will and testament of me James O’Neil at present of Maddox Cove in the Island of Newfoundland Fisherman made this thirtieth day of May A.D. 1908.    I appoint my daughter Mary Ellen wife of James Walsh executrix of this my will.    I give devise and bequeath all the property of which I shall die possessed of every description whatsoever to my wife Ellen for her sole use and benefit during her life and on her death I give devise and bequeath the same as follows.
      First I give devise and bequeath to my said daughter Mary Ellen that piece of land extending from Mrs. Walshs to Patrick Hanifords & bounded by the river also that piece of land situate on the main road and Robert Hanifords lane, also that piece of land containing about twenty acres and situate on the main road to Lameys adjoining land of the widow Madden & to the north side of widow Maddens.     Also the lower part of that piece of land situate on the side of the main road and known as turn garden To hold the said piece of land to my said daughter for ever.
      I give devise and bequeath to my son Patrick that piece of land situate on the lower side of the road & lying between his barn & his dwelling house also my waterside premises situate at Maddox Cove and adjoining property of one Patrick Haniford To hold the said properties to the said Patrick O’Neil for ever.
      I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Bridget Kielley that piece of land situate on the side of the main road and known as turn garden the upper portion of the same that is the part fenced to hold the same to my said daughter for ever.    In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name at Maddox Cove aforesaid the day and date first above written. Signed by the said testator as his last will & testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request & in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the same have been first read over and explained James his X mark O’Neil    E.P. Morris     Mary Ellen Walsh.
