Last will and Testament of
Johanna O’Connell of St. John’s
widow deceased
I Johanna O’Connell of
St. John’s widow declare this to be my last will and Testament
hereby revoking all former wills and testamentary dispositions by me
made.
1. I direct that my just debts funeral and testamentary
expenses shall be first paid out of my estate.
2. I give and
bequeath to Patrick O’Connell now residing at
Maynard in the United States of America the sum of one hundred dollars.
3. I give and bequeath to my brother-in-law William Duggan of St. John’s
the sum of Three hundred dollars.
4. I give and bequeath to
my niece Minnie Duggan daughter of said William
Duggan the sum of fifty
dollars
5. I give and bequeath to my niece Mary Joseph Brennan daughter of James
Brennan the sum of Two hundred dollars.

I give and bequeath to my niece Katie Francis Brennan daughter of James
Brennan the sum of fifty dollars.
7. I give and bequeath to
my sister Bridget wife of James Brennan my house on Duggan Street In
Trust to hold the same for the purposes following that is to say to apply
the rental from year to year of the upstairs tenement after the payment
of one half the ground rent and taxes payable upon the whole house or
land upon which it is situate to the maintenance and support of the said
Katie Francis Brennan until she shall have attained the age of twenty
one years and to apply the rental from year to year of the downstairs
tenement thereof after payment of the other half of the ground rent and
taxes payable upon the whole house or land as aforesaid to the maintenance
and support of the said Mary Joseph Brennan until she shall have attained
the age of twenty one years. And I direct that when the said Katie
Francis shall have attained the age of twenty one years the upstairs tenement
of said house shall be assigned to her and that when the said Mary
Joseph Brennan shall have attained the age of twenty one years the downstairs
tenement shall be assigned to her And I further direct that when the
said tenements shall have been assigned as aforesaid the ground rent
and taxes upon the whole house and land shall be equally borne by the
said Katie Francis and Mary Joseph or
their assigns.
8. I give and bequeath to the Reverend Dean Ryan of St.
Patrick’s the sum
of fifty dollars as a personal legacy.
9. I give and bequeath
to the Reverend Dean Ryan aforesaid the sum of fifty
dollars for charitable purposes to be distributed by him at his discretion.
10. I give and bequeath to the Reverend Dean Ryan aforesaid
the sum of forty dollars for a Requiem High Mass for the repose of my
soul and also the sum of twenty dollars for other masses for the same
object.
11. I give and bequeath to Mary O’Connell now
residing with her father at Maynard aforesaid the sum of Two hundred
dollars
12. I give and bequeath to my sister Bridget wife of James
Brennan all my right title and interest in and to that piece or parcel of land
with the dwelling house thereon situate at the junction of Casey’s
Street and New Gower Street and numbered 110 together with the residue
of my Estate To Hold the said land and dwelling house unto her for during
and unto the full end and term by the lease of the said land demised
I hereby appoint William Duggan aforesaid sole Executor
of this my last will and Testament.
Dated at St. John’s October 17th A.D. 1898. (Sgd) Johanna

by the Testatrix as and for her last will and Testament in the presence
of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each
other have hereunto our hands subscribed as witnesses (sgd) Arthur
W. Knight. (Sgd) Edward Devereux
I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament
of Johanna O’Connell deceased
