Will of Edward Norris
from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 297-298 probate year 1896

Last Will and Testament of
Edward Norris of St. John's
Fisherman deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me Edward Norris of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland Fisherman. I devise and bequeath unto my daughter Mary, now the wife of John Waymouth the sum of three hundred and twenty dollars and my bed and bedding for her sole use and benefit for ever. Also I devise and bequeath unto my son James Norris the sum of Two hundred dollars and my watch for his sole use and benefit for ever. Also I devise and bequeath unto my Granddaughter Mary Norris child of my son Edward Norris late of St. John's aforesaid master mariner deceased the sum of Two hundred and twenty dollars for her sole use and benefit for ever. Also I devise and bequeath unto the Roman Catholic Clergymen of St. John's aforesaid the sum of Forty dollars to be equally divided between them for masses for my soul and that of my wife Mary Norris also I devise and bequeath unto St. Michael's Orphanage at Belvidere the sum of twenty dollars. All the rest and residue of my estate real, personal or whatsoever or wheresoever the same may be of which I shall die possessed or to which I shall or may be entitled at the time of my decease and not hereinbefore disposed of (after payment of my just debts legacies and funeral expenses) I devise and bequeath unto my son James Norris and Granddaughter Mary Norris child of my son Edward Norris aforesaid deceased which is to be equally divided between them. And I hereby appoint my said daughter Mary wife of John Waymouth aforesaid sole executrix of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all other testamentary writings. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed and set my hand this thirty first day of March A.D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety six. (Sgd) Edward Norris. Signed by the said Testator Edward Norris as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, present at the same time, who at his request in his sight and presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as attesting witnesses.
