of John Murphy

I John Murphy of South East Cove Catalina Newfoundland being in an infirm state of health but of sound mind and understanding consider it prudent and proper to make this my last will and testament for the disposal of my personal and other property now held in trust by Thomas McCormick of Catalina for my wife Johanna Murphy by virtue of an indenture made by me the twenty fifth day of September Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and seventy six
First I give my wife Johanna Murphy $80 a year out of money deposited in the Union bank of Newfoundland for her support after first deducting my funeral expenses and one hundred and sixty dollars each for my sons James and Edward. After my wife's death should such money be left in Union Bank I give to my son John one hundred dollars and to my daughters Alice Nowlan Mary Curren, and Margaret Ryan forty dollars each and the rest to be equally divided amongst all my children. Second I give to my sons James and Edward all my property situate in South East Cove consisting of lands houses, stores flakes stages seines nets traps and all other fishery gear to be equally divided between them should either of my sons leave home for a foreign country in order to earn a living such son shall not sell any of the property viz lands houses and fishery gear, from the other without his consent and should the brother leaving return he shall reclaim an equal share of what property he left behind. And I hereby appoint my sons James and Edward my executors for the purpose of having this my last will and testament performed according to my wishes and intentions as contained herein given under my hand this the seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety one.
